Dr. Rachel I Kornik, MD

My experience with Rachel Kornik was appalling. I had two visits with her. At my initial visit I could hear her talking to her nurse while I sat waiting in a hospital gown under an A/C vent. She was complaining about her children and how needy they were. When she finally came in for my exam, she was displaying the same annoyed, impatient demeanor that I'd been overhearing as I waited. I explained that I was there for a skin check and to establish care because my rheumatologist said I needed to have annual skin checks. I also had a rash that was coming and going over a period of several months and seemed to be cycling along with a medication I was taking. She was very dismissive of my concerns and quickly moved on to the skin exam. I've had skin exams before. This was like no other I'd experienced. She circled around me flipping my gown up and pulling it down without any word of warning. My previous dermatologist would always say what she was doing before she did it. "I'm going to… check your back now", "Is it okay if I lift your gown?", "Can I check your breasts?", etc... Dr Kornik's exam was very crude. She whipped open my gown in the back before I even knew she was starting. Terrible bedside manner... I felt like I was being groped and violated. It was bizarre. After the exam she told me the rash I was concerned about was nothing, maybe bug bites. She said if I thought that my antidepressant was causing it that I should just stop taking it. Terrible advice. At the end she offered to biopsy one of the spots to placate me. The pathologist who studied my biopsy concluded that the rash was autoimmune and could be a result of a drug reaction. Dr Kornik withheld those results from me while she argued with the pathologist over the results. My rheumatologist gave me the results a month later during a routine visit. She was concerned that the pathology report alongside my known medical history and symptoms may be suggestive lupus. She was disgusted that Dr Kornik did not share these results with me. I called Kornik's office to inquire and agreed to return for a repeat biopsy. She submitted two repeat biopsies to path and altered the context of my medical symptoms in her request. Basically, she lied about my symptoms and described the rash inaccurately to lead the pathologist to one conclusion over another. As a result, they never took the steps necessary to further explore drug reaction or autoimmunity and concurred that folliculitis was a possibility. She diagnosed folliculitis and prescibed an antibiotic which, of course, has not done anything for the rash. I could've avoided two skin wounds from repeat biopsies and just tried the antibiotic if I had known that she was going to order a minimal investigation of them and not take the appropriate steps to repeat explore the factors from the 1st biopsy that pointed to autoimmunity and drug reaction as I'd always suspected. She couldnt stand it when pathology concluded that I was right after she had so blatantly dismissed my concern. It's bizarre how she just refused to be wrong and went to these lengths to avoid admitting it. Her chart notes were full of inaccuracies. She even said that I recieved stitches and was to return in 10-12 days for removal when I didn't get any stitches at all. Do yourself a favor and choose a different dermatologist. I wish I had.
