I was so impressed with Dr Mitra, he is a "Rehabilitation Medicine Doctor" ( I didn't even know such a specialty exists) and spent a lot of time examining me and listening to me, he read my MRI AND EXPLAINED THE RESULTS- something no other pain doc had done. We tried therapy first and then dr mitra did the epidural himself - I have been pain free for 6 months.

I have been suffering from low back and leg pain from some time, after seeing a few other "professionals", I finally found a caring wonderful doctor to REALLY LISTEN to me, and make a treatment plan. I eventually had a back injection and have been pain free for two months; I REALLY HOPE STANFORD CAN PLEASE, PLEASE KEEP HIM! it seems all the good docs leave stanford.....

Dr Mitra has been taking care of my sciatica for years; I have always been able to get into see him, he has done a few epidurals but is certainly not procedure happy. Compared to the other docs I have seen for back pain, he is head and shoulders above the rest. I sure hope Stanford can manage to keep him - I don't know what I would do if he left.

dr mitra saw my father for chronic low back pain; he was very caring and spent the time to ask questions and get him into therapy, and eventually an epidural steroid injection. he really cared, and didn't rush. a great doctor and love his new redwood city campus ...

I saw dr mitra for a pinched nerve in my back; i was really miserable and he took the time to diagnose me accurately and finally git a treatment plan in place. I was very happy with him and would go again if I had to

I saw Dr. Mitra at Stanford several times. His wait time is amazingly long. Even if you get the first appointment of the day, he will make you wait and doesn't respect your time. My usual wait time is 45 mins: saw the intern doctor for 10 mins and Dr. Mitra just dropped by and chats for less than 5 mins. His listening skill is weak, and is "suspicious" of his patients. He did not believe I had intermittent pain. When I tried describing it, he wouldn't listen and thought I was lying to him. His intern doctor (who did most of his work on my visit) was inexperienced also and had bad listening skill. Even though Stanford may be a good hospital, this doctor sure isn't.
