Dr. Ranjan Malhotra, MD

My mother is hearing impaired and she went to see dr. Maholtra for a consultation for eye surgery. He was asked to slow down while speaking so that my mother could read his lips (this is the only way she can communicate) Mr Maholtra's response was " I don't have time to slow down, do you know how busy I am?" Can you imagine responding to a hearing impaired senior citizen like this? Absolutely disgusting Dr and human being. I would highly discourage anyone from trusting this person with their well being, nor would I give anyone like this pathetic man any of my business and I'm sure any decent person out there would agree.

Beware: I recommend thinking twice before investing your time or your health with this doctor. After spending 14 years under his care, delaying needed treatment while paying for unnecessary procedures (sometimes directly out of pocket, like for collagen cross linking therapy which was a waste of time & money), he finally passed me off to another doctor rather then provide the surgical care I needed to correct my vision problems. His main focus is in making as much money as he can off of his patients, and wastes your time while doing it. I’ve had to reschedule many visits after waiting well over an hour after my appointment time to see him. I ended up having to seek proper medical care from another provider.

Dr. Malhotra did my cataract surgery 3 years ago. After the surgery I had pain in my eye and extremely blurry vision. I called and was told this was normal. The next day I went to the office and asked to be seen and was again told that this was normal and to go home. He refused to see me. When I went for my follow up appointment with the optometrist I was told that my eye pressure was high 34 and I needed glaucoma medicine, I also had white blood cells in the eye chamber and I needed an antibiotic drop and steroids. After 3 months, my eye pressure came back to normal. After 1 year I was told that I had glaucoma in both eyes. A second opinion at SLU ophthamology revealed that I suffered acute angle glaucoma after my surgery and that my optic nerve was damaged from the lack of treatment and follow up care. Dr. Malhotra never saw me after doing my surgery. He took his money, did his procedure and did not take care of me when I had complications.

Doc RPM is very knowledgeable, board certified, has wonderful bedside manner & is clear and concise w/explaining/communicating. I like this Dr a lot, respect & trust his work. Keith, an employee, is also excellent in his detail, work ethic & customer care service. The downside for me has been, in office one time to see the doc & once for testing doc suggested. Made my co-pays then received bills, that I'm not able to cover!! Insurance kicked-back their claim & I am being held responsible. I specifically stated, that I MUST know any cost out of pocket before I consent to any services. Now I'm struggling to resolve this major $$$ problem. This is no way to run a business, when I presented my insurance coverage prior. I do not understand WHY I was placed in this position. Human healthcare & insurance billing feels like a scam, when patients are left with bills that were for elective non-emergency care. All this could have been avoided if ONLY the office staff would have checked &… communicated. From now on, I will personally contact the insurance co. myself -- hopefully I can be provided with the billing codes. The Surprise Act I thought was inplace to protect both parties from having these financial complications & unsatisfactory reviews.

My parents were cheated out of 2600.00 by this office. My father is double insured, the secondary insurance picks up all costs after the first insurance pays. He demanded payment for what the 1st insurance would not cover - insisting it would be refunded when the 2nd insurance paid. When the 2nd insurance paid they refused to refund the money. They called my other stupid, told her she had no idea what she was talking about (she is very educated) and refused to pay. I did not find this out until tax time so could not assist them by driving to St. Louis to sit in their office until this was covered. REFUSE to take any more eye surgery business to them.

I’m sitting with my husband waiting for him to have surgery. Dr. Maholtra already verbally assaulted my hearing impaired & intermittently confused husband at our last visit here. Dr. Maholtra raised his voice & reprimanded my husband for asking for specifics of his surgery because he couldn’t remember from a previous appointment 7 months prior. I wish I would have been able to video that interaction as I am sure it would have gone viral. I have just overheard the front desk at the surgery center making fun of an elderly man who didn’t understand what they were asking him. It’s so inappropriate. Obviously it’s filtered down to them from this rude & blatantly disrespectful physician.

Didn't see surgeon after surgery. Saw associate for 1 year before getting to see surgeon for same problem before surgery. Not happy. Was treated disrespectfull

Dr. Malhotra saved my eyes and my vision. I had seen many doctors in the town where I live and my eye condition was getting worse. I went to see Dr. G Shah who referred me to Dr. Malhotra as the best for the care I needed. Dr. M spent so much time with me and was so easy to talk to. He was the friendliest, and most laid back doctor I have ever seen. If you didn't know he was a doctor, you wouldn't know he was a doctor. He was that down to earth. After a serious issue I had he even gave me his cell phone number to call if I had problems. After my complicated surgery, he personally called me from his home. I could hear his kids right there with him. He called me from his car after another urgent issue I had. He didn't ask his assistants to call me, he did it himself. He includes my husband in every conversation and treatment plan. Most docs don't even acknowledge he is in the room. To top it off, he is the very best at what he does. He got my eyes back on track and has helped me so much… with my complicated conditions over the years. The past year he has gotten much busier and doesn't spend near the amount of time he used to. But still answers all my questions and makes sure I am satisfied with the information before leaving the room. They have the best state of the art equipment to be proactive in my care. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my eyes or my vision.

Not Only is Dr Malhotra is an excellent Ophthalmologist, but his staff is the best bar none! That office can get very busy, this will happen when you are the best in your field, and the staff is able to attend to all the patients keeping them updated on time and giving top notch service!

I visited this doctor due to what a friend at work told me. The wait was a little longer than I expected, however after seeing the doctor, I can say that he was completely honest with me, answered all my questions, and even apologized for the slight wait, which was not a big deal to begin with. Currently, two members of my family on my wife's side see either him, or one of the optometrists working at his practice and there experiences are similar to mine.
