These specialists are similar to critical care specialists in that their patients often require mechanical ventilation to assist their breathing.
Pulmonologists diagnose and treat patients with conditions such as asthma, cystic fibrosis, asbestosis, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer, COPD, and emphysema. Exposure and inhalation of certain toxic substances may also warrant the services of a pulmonologist.
Some of the tools and tests pulmonologists use to diagnose a patient are a stethoscope in order to listen for abnormal breathing sounds, chest X-rays, CT scans, blood tests, bronchoscopy, and polysomnography.
- Critical Care Medicine
Also sometimes referred to as intensivists, critical care specialists are physicians with specialized training in the diagnosis and management of life-threatening conditions. Some of these conditions affect vital organs like the heart and lungs, those that make breathing difficult or impossible, and those that affect entire organ systems, like the renal system.
Critical care specialists are typically found in a hospital's intensive care unit where they monitor patients with life-threatening conditions and make determinations as to the best course of treatment.

Dr Izurieta saw my husband more than 1 year ago and he was the one who diagnosed him with lung cancer. It was due to his care and concern, that my husband received treatment on time. He is an excellent physician and strongly recommend him
He has a very thick accent that i couldnt understand and sometimes would speak spanish words when speaking to me.
First I am a foreign graduate but I don't speak Spanglish as this patient is saying. I was trained at Mayo Clinic Rochester and no everybody goes there for training. A lot of this patient have accent coming from the southe of the USA and they will not be understood if they travel 2 hours north. You can not make everybody happy bottom line You only have to do is to work hard and take care of the patients
This was the worst doctor's experience I've ever had. I had a procedure at the hospital, had to have a designated person with me, which I did, and Dr. I never even bothered to speak with him. I saw him one time for five minutes prior to the procedure. The results of my procedure were in their computer for almost three weeks and they didn't know it. I would never recommend this doctor or this office to anyone. The insurance person told me she would schedule the procedure when she got around to it, that she had been out sick. Very unprofessional.
I always give results to a person who is with the patient if that person is POA or relative. I always do but probably that particular day the relative was not in waiting area and always see the patient 1 week later after procedure for results even if they are negative results
I was referred to Dr. Izurieta after I had been diagnosed with OSA from my PCP. Dr. I was a little uneasy with the whole situation and was scared of wearing the machine at night. Dr. Izurieta and his staff did an EXCELLENT job explaining the therapy. They referred me to a CPAP company in GCS who did an incredible job reexplaining my condition and assisting me with therapy. I would strongly recommend this doctor to anyone who has been diagnosed with OSA.
