Dr. Richard Jeffrey Fischel, MD

This doctor out right lied about risks & side-effects of ets surgery. He ignored messages of complaints. It appears he was sued & lost in a medi-malpractice case. There are many other victims he has lied to about this. Avoid at all costs.

Outstanding doctor and surgeon.

Dr. Fischel was quite charming but unfortunately he spent more time talking about his qualifications than diagnosing my problem.After getting all the tests done taht he wanted he told me my breathing problems were due to COPD and I started treatment for it. Luckily I went and got a second and third opinion and it turned out I had a carcinoma and the beginning of lung cancer. If I hadn't caught it in time I may not be here.Overall my experience with Dr. Fischel was not unpleasant but he sure missed the target in his diagnosis.

This Doctor was amazing! I have been very selective in choosing a Dr. In fact, I have now spoken to 3 surgeons and 2 critical care specialists to advise me on my condition of reoccuring pneumothrax. Out of all the Doctors I saw, Fischel was the best by far. He took extra time explaining everything to me in a reassuring way that helped calm my anxiety. Also, after all my research I realized that Fischel uses the most up to date techniques. I could give examples but this may get too long. In conclusion, Fischel is a wonderful Dr with great references. I was referred by my friend who is one of the head nurses at Hoag Hospital and she told me he was great. After meeting him, and hearing him answer all of my questions, I truly believe my friend who told me, "Fischel truly cares about his patients."

Dr. Richard Fischel was extremely nice when I saw him for the ETS consultation. Only a few days to get in to see him and the staff was polite. They're great at getting you in the doorMy problem was redness(flushing) of the face and some sweaty palms. I told him the palms bothered me but not terribly, that the flushing was more of a problem. He told me the surgery would take care of both with a low chance of slight compensatory sweating (CS) which would almost certainly go away on its own if it appeared at all.He even gave me people to call who supposedly had ETS surgery. Of the 3 names I could only reach one and turns out he'd had it done only a few weeks earlier, before the CS would even begin. My mistake was not being more suspicious but Richard Fischel is very smooth and convincing. After all, he's a doctor, I could trust him right? Very bad idea.It's 6 years later and every day is like living in Atlanta during the summer. I'm always sweating through my shirt any time the… temperature gets above 70 and I always feel damp regardless of weather.It's been a disaster, the worst decision of my life and Fischel denies he had anything to do with it. I never had a sweating problem, except for slightly in palms, until I had the surgery, it's obvious what caused it.If you have either a sweating or facial flushing problem do yourself a huge favor and learn from my mistake. Look into any other options you can find or, at the very least, choose a different doctor if you believe surgery is the only way. I'd give anything to be able to have gone a different route, the CS and other side-effects are far worse than the original problem. Good luck.

I am a Stage IV Kidney Cancer patient. In 2007 I lost one kidney and half of one lung. In 2008 I developed two swollen nodes in my chest. My local Oncologist told me that we would have to adopt a "wait and see" approach because "we don't remove those nodes".A nurse at the Hoag Hospital Cancer Center put me in touch with Dr Fischel. Dr Fischel looked over my CT scans and determined that he could do the surgery. I flew to California (from Kentucky) and had the surgery. At my pre-op visit he explained everything good and bad.He then took us to the staff area. My CT Scans were already on a computer screen. He sat us down and explained what the scans showed and how they were different from my baseline scans.The surgery and follow-ups were top notch. Should I need surgery again, I would go back without hesitation.

Richard Fischel brings shame to the medical profession.

This doctor blatantly lied about the side effects of a surgery. He failed to tell crucial information to make an informed consent. Extremely dangerous beware.
