Not only did he show a complete lack of manners and professionalism, but I also went into surgery with a perfectly healthy heart and came out with a gallop rhythm. When I woke up, the nurses around me were clearly panicked. They were moving quickly, looking at my monitor with real concern. I asked what was happening, and they told me they were hearing an extra beat. When the surgeon and the anesthesiologist came in, they sat down about fifteen feet away at a desk. A nurse approached them to express her concern about my abnormal heart sounds. With poor posture and a dismissive attitude, the doctor responded, “I’m not a cardiologist.” Despite being just a few feet from my bed, he never came over to check on me. It was one of the worst experiences I’ve had with a medical professional. I deeply regret not canceling the procedure, and I wish I had never allowed him to operate on me. I’ve had an athlete’s heart all my life, and now I find myself out of breath after just half a flight of… stairs.
