Dr. Richard Tyler Nelson, DO

The absolute worst Dr I have ever seen in my life. He acted disinterested and my own research was more effective than his treatment. I went to a different Dr and was immediately referred to Iowa City for surgery. Dr Nelson's treatment plan was to increase vitamin D. He risked the life of my unborn baby because he was too lazy to actually make a referral or see me in person. His answer was always to increase vitamin D. My first visit to Iowa City taught me that the vitamin D would have never solved my issues. I will NEVER go back to him.

Knowledgable, compassionate, and patient is how I would describe Dr. Richard Nelson. He spent all the time necessary to help me better understand what processes and procedures would be preformed and was more than willing to answer all my questions professionally and in a caring manner. I would highly recommend Dr. Nelson to anyone in need of a topnotch endocrinologist.

My mom had an appointment with Dr. Nelson as requested by her physician to check into getting a type of medication that would necessary for her to have before she was to have a major surgery. Dr. Nelson dismissed what her surgeon had found from scans and MRI and told her that her case was very minor, that there was absolutely no need for that medication. He acted like she was wasting his time and wrote in the report that he didn't find any reason why she would need this treatment. He was rude and dismissive. If you want your loved one to get a thorough consultation and exam I would not make an appointment with Dr. Nelson. His opinion and report has been a roadblock with getting second opinions and getting insurance coverage.

I was terrified to go because of reviews but my original appt was with a different doctor (Figgaro) who just decided to leave her practice without notice and he was who they sent me to. I found Dr. Nelson to be a kind and caring person. He seems concerned and asked questions and actually listened to me, unlike many doctors. Perhaps the reason for bad reviews is that they are not taking personal responsibility for their own health and blaming the doctor. Who nows, but i can;t imagine him deserving a one star

It's the same as everyone has said about him, unconcerned, your wasting his time and arrogant and his speech is rehearsed.

All I can say is that I wish I would have found this website sooner. Bad bedside manner. Office disorganized. Poor communication. Told me that I definitely had Grave's disease when the results came back negative. And said that I could still have it. Put me on a low iodine diet without telling me how it worked. Forgot to tell me to not take my medicine in order to have the test. Had to cancel my test and reschedule. Getting a different doctor before they can screw up anything else.

He was terrible. No personality seemed like he was rehearsing a speech!!!

Ignores results in lieu of his preconceived notions. Will not see again.

Dr. Nelson is seems to know his stuff, but comes off a bit arrogant. I had a question for him and called. He did call me back a few hours later but made me feel like I was wasting his time. A bit demeaning. I currently looking for a new doctor. It's hard to get in to see him and you better know what questions you want answered then.
