Dr. Richard Walter Urbanek, MD

To know him is to love him. His personality is quirky, but many people with high IQs are like that. He really cares about his patients, and I am so glad he is still practicing. I will not go anywhere else. I am an actual patient and have been seeing only him for almost 30 years.

The problem was the unprofessional manner of Dr. Urbanek. He began by telling me that my insurance doesn’t cover removal of skin tags because Hillary Clinton doesn’t want it to. (this is in 2022.) When I objected to this ridiculous assertion, his manner became condescending and confrontational. I wanted to ask about a condition that affects older adults and I began by saying, “I am 72 years old,…” He immediately interrupted me with, “Well, I am 75 years old, so what’s your point?” I wanted some insight into the very real phenomenon called “old people smell.” His response was that many people are hallucinating smells because of Covid. When I objected to that, he said I should see a nose and throat doctor, not a dermatologist. Nothing he said to me was helpful. I asked about getting skin fungal infections from polluted seawater, and he responded that’s not how you get it, it comes from sharing gym equipment and from dandruff. Inspected my skin, and noticed a mark on my forehead and asked… about the gunshot wound. Rushed me the whole time, as though he had far more pressing things to do than to bother with me. A miserable person.

Examination was perfunctory and completely lacking in thoroughness. Doctor forgot to bring his dermatoscope into the examination room, and the examination went downhill from there. Did not check my scalp until I reminded him, did not check a mole between my toes that another dermatologist had remarked, conducted examination with me sitting down instead of having me stand and checking both sides of my body. He needs to retire or be retired.

Matt the PA is great! Liz and the medical assistants are good too. Dr. U did a procedure for me once and his ego was horrible! I never want to see him again. The admin staff in the front are not professional. They spend too much time talking badly about people after they leave or complaining about callers. They have been rude to me on the phone too when scheduling appointments. Hopefully now that they were bought by another company their morale will improve. I really like Matt and he's the only reason I still go there.

Top doctor, but the practice was sold, to a corporation and he will be leaving,, so I don't know what to say

Dr Urbanek is very knowledgable.
