Dr. Rita Melkonian, MD

Dr. Melkonian knows her subjects (gynecology AND urology), and will always give her full attention. Keeps up with her fields, and is committed to giving the best care. Appreciates women of all ages. Not a distant corporation with automated phone-respondents. Office staff very accessible to problem-solve. I absolutely trust her evaluations. Have been her patient for 20 years.

Really tuned in to her patients! Excellent Judgment

Dr. Melkonian is truly a doctor's doctor. She is thorough, empathetic, abreast of all new medications & procedures. She takes time to answer, in fact encourages, one's questions & patiently gives explanations making certain she has responded completely. Dr. Melkonian is very supportive of one's health care wishes & refers you to fine specialists if she feel you would profit from additional treatment. Her staff is as congenial as she is & very accommodating. A very happy patient of 30 yrs!

I felt I should go out of my way to write a review so that other people don't have to go through such an awful experience. Her medical billing agency, staff as well as Rita herself are not in dialogue with each other and each person I talk to says something different. Mind you this is all in regards to a three year old bill for $200.00 that they are just telling me about now. I call to try to sort through what's going on and I talk to a lady in billing who says that the bill has been dropped because it was so long ago and that I was all set. Then a few days after that I get a call on my voicemail from someone else saying that they revised my bill after talking to my insurance (mind you I have full coverage and zero copay) and that I now owed $67.00. I was pretty shocked at this point so I call the main office and the receptionist has no idea what I'm talking about but is able to actually get Rita herself on the phone so I try to tell her my experience so far and she literally tells… me that everyone in the office is new and that no one knows what's going on and that I owe the full $200.00. She then becomes really rude and says they've called me before (I never got a call in 3 years) and that I didn't pay etc. I've never dealt with a more incompetent staff where there was so much confusion that no one knew what was going on. It was pretty sad because I remember she was a good doctor when I used to see her three years ago. I just think that she can't keep up with the billing side of things or she needs to hire better staff to do it; preferably people who talk to each other.

I respect her training. She's a pelvic surgical specialist in addition to being a GYN. She knows her stuff. In the past, I did have to wait a bit before my scheduled appointment was ready, but that seems to be worked out now. My experience with her PA is that she goes by the book, didn't really listen to my concerns and just wanted to mete out standard treatment. But Dr. Melkonian seems to take a more holistic approach. I feel she really listens to me and I know she takes time during my appointment to talk things through with me.
