I found Dr Moore while doing a on line search for prolapse bladder surgery. I had seen a previous doctor for this condition and was not happy with that visit and wanted a second opinion. After reading their own web site about how well renowned he and his partner were, I decided to make an consultation appointment. I felt he was very knowledgeable, and he took plenty of time with me during my visit. I left his office with a good sense that I would be in good hands should I decide to have surgery. As part of the consultation, a fee estimate was given to me. Since this group of doctors does not have any contracts with insurance companies, you will be charged the full amount minus what your insurance might pay for their services based on your individual plan. I did decided to have the surgery. I was pleased with the surgery and believe the doctor did a good job. Went to Northside Hospital and everyone there was great. But what they won't disclose to you is the actual amount you will be charged for literally everything they do to you in the office and for the surgery. PLEASE, PLEASE, ASK them for full disclosure of their charges unless you don't care what the financial cost is to you. I was given an estimate sheet for his fees of $8600 and was told by the office insurance person, that I could figure around $10,000 total plus what the hospital would charge. When I asked about the statement that there might be assistant surgeon fees, I was told there would not be. But the papers I signed said both, so maybe there would be, maybe not. The fees charged to the insurance company was nothing close to what I had on paper. When a got a bill from there office, the total charges I was responsible for was over $33,000.00. And that was after the insurance company made their payments and the required up from payments I made to his office prior to surgery.($6440.00) I don't have a problem with what they set their fees at, that's their choice. But I do have a problem that I am not given the opportunity or the right to know what those fees are so that I can make the best possible financial choice. I feel taken advantage of and lied to by his office. Had I known I was actually looking at a $40,000 charge, I would have found another doctor, who would have been in my insurance network to perform the surgery. No doubt there are other good surgeons in the Atlanta area. Do your homework and don't sign anything without written confirmation of their fees. Folks, for the average person, $40,000 is a lot of money. My dropped bladder is fixed, but I'm now broke. I could have saved myself a ton of money, stress and pain and just had a pessy put in. Be Wise, I was not!
While we are happy to hear you are pleased with the results of your surgery and the skill of Dr. Moore, we are sorry to hear that you were unhappy with the billing process. As we discuss with patients prior to surgery we are out of network physicians. We base an initial estimate on the primary physicians fee only. Our patients are instructed that their insurance company will be billed in full for the primary surgeon and assistant surgeon fees if an assistant is required but our patients are NOT responsible for any uncovered assistant surgeon fees. For example, if your total surgery estimate for our office is $13,000.00, even if we had to perform additional procedures during surgery and an assistant was required, your total out of pocket, even if your insurance company paid $0, would be $13,000.00. In addition, the hospital bills separately from our office and it would be very common to see total billing for a surgery to an insurance company well in excess of $40,000.00. We are required by the insurance companies to send a statement to you showing our full charges prior to any write offs. However, we have never collected $40,000.00 in out of pocket physician fees from any single surgery patient. Please feel free to contact our practice administrator, Mindy Roark at 770-475-4499 if you have any questions and to confirm the actual out of pocket amount you paid for your surgery.
Was treated for MRKH and Dr. Moore told me inaccurate medical information, never shared the other treatment options to me, never shared post operation procedures, he was money hungry and focused on the quantity of surgeries he does and not the quality. He makes you think there are no other options at that moment so you make the appointment to have the surgery only to find out years later you could have picked a better treatment option, with a more qualified specialist who also cares about you as a person and doesn't just look at you as profit. He's simply creepy and you should have the type of condition treated at a medical hospital where research is currently being conducted. Also, the follow-up visit was a joke.
