Dr. Robert Donald Ficalora, MD

I took on Dr. Ficalora as a new patient in Billings, Montana. Coming from the Mayo Clinic, I would have thought he would be good. I have been to see him two times. The first time, I thought he was pretty decent even though he made me a bit uncomfortable, but it was the second time that I felt he was a little bit dismissive and poo pooed my symptoms. After my persistence, he sent me for an EMG, but when the EMG came back normal, he discounted my symptoms as being temperature-related, and told me to wear wrist splints at night (via letter). Well, I knew that was completely bogus, and my health is too important not to be taken seriously. I explained my symptoms to my Ob/Gyn who suggested MS as the possible culprit, so I need another doctor's appointment right away for further testing (the symptoms have gotten MUCH worse). Rather than wasting anymore time with Dr. Ficalora, I've made a new appointment with a different doctor in a different hospital. If you can avoid it, I wouldn't… waste my time with Dr. Ficalora. I agree with another patient when he/she said the doctor needs to retire. I just don't think he cares, anymore.

My husband is ill and we were referred to Mayo Clinic by many specialists in our local area because Mayo Clinic is suppose to be top notch in the nation. The first doctor that we met with was Dr. Robert Ficalora who was rude, obnoxious, and completely out of line when we were in the consultation. When he asked my husband questions he didn't even let my husband answer or he would just laugh at my husband's answers. He would not let me speak and my sister came for added support to both of us and Dr. Ficalora told my sister she was a complete distraction when in all actuality she did nothing wrong. He told my husband he looked healthy to him, but I do not know any human being who experiences hot flashes where the person sweats profusely and is cold to the touch at the same time numerous times a day. Or someone who has lost 60 lbs. in 6 months without trying. Or someone who experiences continuous pain 24/7. Or someone who has headaches, stomach aches, nausea, and diarrhea everyday. … Dr. Ficalora through the gown at my husband and told him to take off his clothes and put the gown on when conducting a physical exam. Prior to the appointment we preregistered and had numerous medical reports faxed to the clinic along with hand carrying some reports. During our consultation it was clear to all of us that Dr. Ficalora not only did not take the time to review the records he did not care about how he treated my husband or that he is even sick. Dr. Ficalora had stated after my husband asked about the high level result from one test he had done at home that this test was a false positive and was a useless test anyway, but proceeded to order this same test on my husband. We asked patient relations of Mayo Clinic to have a new general internist to oversee all of my husband's care and we were told we could not have one. We do not feel safe or comfortable having this man as a "Doctor". He does not deserve to be called a "Doctor". I thought they took an oath to do no harm. Well let me tell you if my husband wasn't feeling hopeless about finding out what is wrong with him before Dr. Ficalora made sure he has no hope now. THANK YOU VERY LITTLE ROBERT FICALORA. SHAME ON YOU, MAY GOD SEE TO IT THAT ONE DAY YOU ARE TREATED THE SAME AS YOU TREAT OTHERS.

After reading the reviews of others I was expecting the worst. Let me tell everyone that Dr. Ficalora was as good as any doctor I have seen at Mayo and I am an experienced patient. I was visited promptly. I had a list of medical situations and he patiently worked on everything one that were in his sphere of expertise with great success. Then he referred me to other departments where each one was at the top of their game. I have been helped greatly. Will need subsequent visits and I am extremely comfortable having Dr. Ficalora as my go to physican. He gave me all the time I needed and responded to each question. He was extremely comfortable with me and I with him. I give him 5 stars in every category.

This is an arrogant doctor plain and simple. He flat out told me he didn't care when I brought up concerns. He asked why I was at mayo because there are good doctors where I live even though later Mayo found there mistake! He is not civil and does not show an ounce of care. He constantly added incorrect information in my files that could have changed the outcome of my care. Mayo please listen... You have a wonderful hospital but this man does not need to represent your clinic please please relieve him.

Very sarcastic doctor. I admit I have weight problems, but to be bullied and reprimanded in front of a medical student is not what I expected in seaking medical care for my issues

When I first met Dr. Ficalora, I thought I would be getting great care at the Mayo Clinic. Instead, what I got was a bunch of referrals to other clinics....and did not get anything from him. He does not return phone call and would like to toss your problems to other docs. If only I can refuse to pay my bill on seeing this doctor...so frustrating that I requested to change primary care MD since.

This doc should retire already. I thought my father was lucky to get a "geriatric specialist" while in the hospital...what we got was an old doc, with poor coordination of care, unclear plans and poor communication. My doc at Olmstead was better than him

We went to Mayo Clinic and got admitted at St. Mary Hospital. This doctor and his team was not what we expected from Mayo Clinic. He is always not avialable, does not meet family, and does not return phone calls. My father was discharhed without clear follow-up or closure....our trip to Mayo clinic was dissapointing because of this doctor.
