Dr. Robert Matthew Verklin, MD

I have been seeing Dr. V Off and on for 12 years. He repaired my meniscus and I had no issues following the surgery. As I have gotten older I have started to experience knee issues. I was a run errands lifted heavy weights and I am paying for that now. Dr.V has treated each issue. I will eventually need knee replacement but Dr. V is doing everything he can to prolong that surgery.. I'm very happy with my treatment and I highly recommend Dr. Verklin. He is kind, a good listener and takes time to explain everything.

I went to treatment on my right knee with Dr.Verklin He is all business and clearly knows his stuff He explained everything I needed to know and answered all my questions He solved my problem and I recommend him very highly The staff were polite and efficient especially Robert Hardesty. this is a good place to go for no nonsense medical care

Great doctor knee surgery went great it's been 15 years no issues

Waited over an hour to see the doctor, think the wait staff forgot me. Would describe his bedside manner as gruff, but knows his stuff.

We'd like to express our sincere appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Verklin and Joanne for their outstanding care of our son who presented with pain in the left knee. Xrays and an MRi were taken and surgery was scheduled at AAMC. Over the years our family of three sons have seen this wonderful doctor more times than we can count! We've always been very pleased. That said, it wasnt until working with them closely over a short period of time; going to appointments, reviewing MRIs and xrays, scheduling surgeries, phone calls, not to mention the outstanding kindnedss and compassion on the day of surgery and the way Dr. Verklin took us to a private room in the hospital to discuss the outcome of the surgery that we really got a clear picture of how amazing they both are. Everything Joanne and Dr. Verklin did surpassed our expectations. The old adage: behind every great man is a great woman...well that is Joanne! They have worked together more than 30 years. They are a fabulous team.… We admire Dr. Verklins kind and caring demeanor, sincerity, surgical skills, and outstanding follow up care. In closing, thank you Dr. Verklin and Joanne...for what you did, what you said, and who you are.

I went to Dr. Verklin for a suspected ACL tear. After reading the MRI and examining my knee he determined it was just the lateral meniscus that was torn and scheduled surgery for the next month. After that surgery Dr. Verklin told me my ACL was actually torn and I would need surgery for that as well. He said the best type for my age/activity level would be a patella grapht surgery. This surgery was a complete failure, at six weeks out the ACL re-tore, I went to another doctor for a second opinion before returning to Dr. Verklin for a third surgery. I was told that the patella surgery was a very poor choice based on the fact I was a runner and that my patella tendon was abnormally short making that surgery basically doomed for failure. The surgeon I went to also stated that I had re-torn the meniscus as well. I had surgery to repair the meniscus yet again then scheduled a fourth surgery with a Dr. at Union Memorial. He did a cadaver grapht and it has been a great sucess. Unfortunately… due to the failure of my first two surgeries, the scar tissue and trauma to my knee has made it prone to arthritis and I am unable to run. Two weeks before I was injured and saw Dr. Verklin I had run a marathon, he completely ruined my running career and left me with 4 useless scars, one of which is about a 6 inch gash down the center of my knee. Dr. Verklin was rude and never offered any options, did not explain what he planned to do and was very closed minded to additional treatment options. He also refused to fit me for a functional brace after my ACL surgery which contributed to the re-injury. do not go to this doctor if you ever want to wear shorts or run again!!!

I went to him for a meniscus tear. He asked very few questions and seemed almost not to care. He used that lamp on the table to read the xray, which I thought was strange. I had to aske him questions about recovery and activities I could participate in.

I went to Dr. Verklin for a second opinion on an MRI that showed I had a slight tear of my medial meniscus. Southern Maryland Orthopedics recommended surgery. The Doctor at SOMD Ortho had no bedside manner, was generally rude, gave basically no explanation and did not couple the MRI with an x ray. In contrast, Dr. Verklin (not knowing I was there for a second opinion until the end) gave a very thorough analysis of my MRI, took and reviewed x rays of both knees with me, did a hands on assessment of both knees and concluded my knees were sound despite the slight tear and explained, in detail, why my better option was no surgery. I then told him about SOMD ortho and he was genuinely surprised by their assessment, including how that Doctor said it was a "15 minute" operation and downplayed any post op issues. Dr. Verklin clearly explained all arthroscopic surgery knee issues with me and said that there was no "15 minute" arthro surgery. Mine would take at least an hour and result in… up to 16 weeks rehab to regain close to full (but never full) strength. The entire experience at the Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center in Annapolis (I went to Bowie office) was outstanding, coupled with a Doctor I walked away with full confidence in, and I will only go to this Center and this Doctor as my first choice again. A second, better opinion, does count. I am very happy with this outcome and have returned to normal activity, including running and biking, with no adverse effects.

Basically, this doctor offered me a diagnosis but no treatment.I have had runner's knee for 3 months. After rest, ice and NSAIDS didn't help, I figure maybe I need pro treatment - something like physical therapy. So, this doctor diagnosed my problem in 5 minutes and then said he'd send in the trainer. The "trainer" was just one of the staff that handed me some photocopied stretching exercises.

I am taking the time to rate this specialist because after three appointments, I can say that this physician and the practice as a whole, are exemplary. The office is quite large and busy, yet each of the staff I have dealt with have been exceptionally courteous, patient and helpful. Dr. Verklin himself took the time to review in detail test results and offer options for treatment. His nurse returned my calls the same day. This is a very special practice and I would recommend it without reservation.
