Dr. Roland Norman Chen, MD

I have been asking for a urologist for more than two years and Cheshire Medical could not attract nor keep a staff of urologists until now. Hopefully not too late for me. I found Dr. Chen personable and professional. I learned much more from him than my Primary but that to be expected with a specialist. His exam was more thorough than any before him. I recommend Dr Chen!

TURP surgery performed by Dr. Chen for severely enlarged prostate. I could not be happier with the results and surgical skill of Dr Chen after inappropriate green light laser procedure performed in the past failed to provide relief.

I had BPH for nearly 10 years and often woke up for bathroom visits 3 to 4 times a night. I recently received the Thulium Laser surgery by Dr. Chen at Carson Tahoe Hospital. From checking in to being released, I spent 4 hours in the hospital and on Catheter for about 20 hours. I got excellent urine flow just a few hours after the removal of the Catheter and was able to work normally the next day. Thank you, Dr. Chen and your staff! Thank you for the thorough explanations for the pros and cons of the different treatment options and for recommending/performing the Thulium Laser procedure. My gratitude also goes out to the anesthesiologist and the nurses at the hospital, and to the state-of-the-art later system, the latest model of Olympus Fiber Laser Dr. Chen used there.

I have been a patient off and on for over 19 years. Dr. Chen takes the time to listen, question and explain in detail. Bedside manner is the best of the best. Have always have 100% confidence in what he says. Recommend him.

Took way too long sitting in the waiting room and in the back office. Have a long, long history of bladder infections and it is taking more and more prescriptions to clear up but he did not look at my bladder with a scope - this surprised me as the urologist that I had gone to before that retired did this.

It is a Great Doctor.

I've had at least 10-12 surgeries performed by Dr. Chen. He is excellent at removing difficult kidney stones. Where my high confidence and rating of Dr.Chen comes from is his ability to listen, take a patients feelings into account and be kind. He's taken great care of my grandparents as well as myself. His sense of humor and love of his work is also greatly appreciated.

I was disappointed that Dr. Chen did not understand how to read a Hormone Profile lab report. He also had no ideas how to lower 5-alpha-reductase or DHT levels without turning to drugs that have a questionable history of causing prostate cancer. I would rather see a doctor who is not beholden to pharmaceutical companies and has a better understanding of chemical/hormone processes in the body and how to treat BHP in a more natural way.I was also unable to get in to see anyone in his practice when I was in horrible pain - they insisted on a $2,500 visit to the emergency room which did little to help my symptoms.

Reviewed my case ,gave me all my options. I chose the treatment based on being fully informed. Wasnt thrilled with path report but I will have an excellent outcome based on Dr. Chens expertise.
