- Pain Management
A pain management specialist is a physician with advanced knowledge and training in diagnosing and treating pain. These doctors do not come from one particular discipline, but rather use their respective backgrounds to contribute a varied approach to the field of pain management.
These specialists use their different skills and training in pain management to treat pain stemming from different causes - whether it's neuropathic pain or headache, or the result of injury, a surgical procedure, cancer or another illness.
Pain management specialists are primarily trained as anesthesiologists, physiatrists, interventional radiologists, neurologists, osteopaths, or primary care physicians.
Anesthesiologists are physicians who are trained to administer anesthetics, which are medicines used to block nerve sensation. Anesthesia can be either local to one specific part of a body, like a tooth, or regional to block feeling to a larger portion of the body, such as during an epidural for child birth. It can also be more general to block sensation to the entire body, resulting in unconsciousness.
Anesthesiologists assist in surgery by determining how much anesthesia is necessary and by monitoring the patient's level of responsiveness and vital signs throughout the procedure. The anesthesia specialist will also bring the patient out of anesthesia and then continue to monitor his or her vital signs post-operation.
Besides assisting in surgeries, anesthesiologists may also treat patients suffering from chronic pain.

Dr. Hallgreen only is interested in the money. I seldom saw her except for her sticking her head in door to ensure she could charge my insurance for office visit fee and not just nurse visit. Dr. Hallgreen does NOT have any hospital privileges. She is a surgeon that can no longer practice as a surgeon. She recently had a pt. that is now paralyzed due to her incompetence. I have been contacted by another former pt., that she dropped because of her lack of knowledge dealing with a cancer patient and the pain and concerns that go along with such responsibilities. I would not let the person treat anyone in my family. She misrepresented herself from the start and it put me in a high risk situation. When I needed my pain pump replaced due to the battery going out, as is normal after 5 yrs, she could not direct me to anyone to have a new one put in. She had told me at the start that she had over 20 yrs experience with them and had put in hundreds! When the time came she told me to call around. I had a pump that was alarming and that was her concern level? I finally told her that Medtronic said she was responsible for my care as my pain doctor and the one who had been filling the pump for over a year. She then said she'd set me up with some quack who would do the replacemnt under a local anesthetic in his office around the corner from her!!!! I finally got a real hospital and a real surgeon to do the replacement. I was put under general anesthesia and hospitalized for a week. I had bleeding problems and my blood pressure was dangerously low. With Dr. H. she would have had my lower abdominal area cut open, a $20,000 piece of medical equipment put in, all at a doctor's office. She'd have sent me home( 2 hrs away) and I would have been bleeding and blood pressure bottoming out. YOU decide, what does this sound like? Not what I would expect from a doctor even for my dog!
Dr. Hallgren has helped me more in the past 8 months than I had been helped in the past 8 years! She is my pain mgmt. doctor for peripheral neuropathy. She listens and actually hears my concerns and assists when humanly possible. She is honest with me as well as compassionate. The staff, receptionist and nurse, that I have dealt with are always friendly, professional and caring. Dr. Hallgren's nurse, Helen, has gone above and beyond the call of service in assisting me to obtain my medications.
