The doctor will give you enough prescripitions to last until your next appointment. The problem arrises if you must reschedule due to a family emergency, car breakdown or any reason. Then, the office can't get you back in for at least a month, sometimes longer and in the meantime, the doctor sometimes WON'T give you ANY medication to last your child until the next appointment. My child was forced to go off anxiety meds that she had been on for several years. It is unhealthy to do this. This happened to us on three occassions over a period of years. Doctors always say that patients need to wein off of SSRIs and yet she would not give us any. She said we could get them from our primary care doctor. But the primary care doctor wouldn't do it because it wasn't their responsibility.As long as you never plan on something unexpectedly causing you to reschedule an appointment, then the doctor is kind, attentive and knowledgeable. I think it is negligent to knowingly cause a child to… stop taking an SSRI cold turkey when they depend on that medication. For this reason only, we have stopped seeing this doctor.
