Dr. Sean Markey

DO NOT LET HIM TOUCH YOU - Sean Markey ruined my life. He preformed a standard L5-S1 fusion on December 16, 2024 due to a bulging disc and degenerative discs. This resulted in me having a severe infection, a broken vertebrae at L5, and lead to me having a second surgery on January 24, 2025 to revise the first fusion and fuse L4-S1. I then had to have a 3rd surgery on February 12, 2025 to do a wash out because the infection would not go away, even with a PICC line and IV antibiotics, I became septic. I basically spent 3 months in the hospital with a few days at home here and there. I have been in chronic pain daily since the first surgery and the nerve pain in my right leg and numbness in my left leg it’s unbearable even on pain medication. I saw a new surgeon and he plans on doing a full revision but due to the nerve damage he has to go in both an anterior and posterior way which is terrifying but it’s my only hope to possibly only get 50% of my pain resolved. I am only 25 and this has… disabled me. My infectious disease doctor says I have a chronic infection that I will have for the rest of my life and will have issues from this forever. After all of this, after the 3rd surgery when I was in the hospital, he abandoned me as his patient. Do not let Sean Markey touch you!!

In 2011 I was diagnosed with a rare brain condition called chiari malformation, it’s so rare to even find a doctor that has heard about it, let alone one that knows how to treat it. In 2012 Dr Markey completed chiari decompression on me and I have to say this, if not for him, my kids wouldn’t have a mother today, I never would’ve met my husband and I most certainly wouldn’t have overcome all I have. I was told before surgery my condition was so bad that I was on the verge of losing the ability for my body to function based on how far my brain had slipped into my spinal canal, I was told I’d never be able to care for my children on my own or hold a job down due to the damage that it looked like it was causing... 6 almost 7 years later I’m fully functional, I work full time, I’ve raised my kiddos with no help from outside agencies and I’m alive! The first doc I saw was the countries leading chiari doc and he had nothing but haste about my condition and was very negative about the whole… situation, two weeks after seeing Dr Markey I was in the operating table... recovering was no cake walk, but it didn’t matter if I called at 2 in the afternoon or 3 in the morning him and the docs/PAs were always available to assist me no matter how small or stupid my question was! I live an hour from his office and even had my surgery an hour away from all my friends and family, Dr Markey was like having my family with me, he assisted in getting me up and moving, he made sure I was in zero pain, even on the long drive home. I’ve met many people from around the world that suffer from my same condition and every time no matter where they live I recommend Markey, not only did he save my life he sat one day and held my hand and let me cry when I was so upset about how long recovery was taking (not because he did anything wrong but because brain surgery is no joke and it takes time to recover from) I’ve since made contact with his office about little questions I have concerning things I should and shouldn’t do and every time his staff is on top of it! They remember my name and what I was seen for before looking at my chart, I get greeted by name when I walk in the door! Another amazing thing he did was explain to my then 3 year that he was gonna fix his mommy, he got on his level and explained things in a way that my baby wasn’t scared or confused. I can legit say that man saved my life and helped me have a fantastic future! I don’t know if his office reads these, but if you do, from the bottom of my heart thank you for everything!

I have a complicated set of circumstances and have had more than one surgery in the past 2 years with Dr. Markey. Whether in the office, on the phone or at the hospital, Dr. Markey has been not just competent but also kind, respectful, caring and patient. He has never rushed my questions, never rushed a decision and been thorough in explaining choices and risks to me. More than anything else, Dr. Markey and his team have been my relentless advocates when I needed that. That is rare and special.

Dr. Markey performed routine surgery on my healthy mother and she died shortly after returning to her room. He operated despite being in previous surgery for over 10 hours. He pushed her through like she was cattle. His poor choice led to her untimely death. Markey nor his team ever followed back up with our family. Our lives have been forever altered thanks to Dr. Markey.

100% disabled combat vet who carried pain for many years. I now have no pain in my upper back. He will work on me again for my lower back and I am sure we will have 100% success. Thanks DOC...

Dr. Markey is a wonderful person and great surgeon. His staff is caring and wonderful to deal with. Both my husband and I have had surgeries done be Dr. Markey and would not see any one else.

The "Bro" doc. I've heard from his colleagues that he isn't that bright. If you read this this and still have surgery you've been warned. Good luck contacting him if you have a problem after surgery.

A lot of these Neuro's have some sort of sales pitch. Dr Markey's uses the familiarity approach . He sells himself as a sort blue collar doctor who saw the world from the cab of a semi truck before deciding to dedicate his life to helping people ( to most of us this would be just life....normalcy). .He is very personable and after a couple minutes you'll think your hanging out with a good friend. Don't let this sell you. Do your research. Your not buying a car or a new friend. Post procedure Dr Markey is a very different person. Of course there is a good chance you'll never get past his front desk or medical assistant to contact him if anything goes wrong. Physician's like Dr Markey will dismiss negative remarks on medical review websites like vitals as crazy or unwarranted yet hang "Doctor of the year" awards on their walls when any discerning patient would have question how they ever win such a thing. Do your due diligence. Research their background and patient experiences.… A doctors corny sales pitch should be the last thing to help you make a big decision. Especially this particular one.

He is an AMAZING dr who is highly educated in complicated cases

After an MRI it was found that I had a large brain tumor and needed to quickly have surgery to remove it. So, less than 2 weeks later on my 50th birthday I was in the hospital for my first of three surgeries over the next 9 months. I'm alive thanks to Dr. Markey and I am doing great! No more migraines, no more balance problems and I'm around to enjoy all 4 of my grandchildren that have been born since my operation 9 years ago in May. Thanks to all the doctors and staff on Dr. Markey's team. I HIGHLY recommend him! Thank you Dr. for saving my life.
