Dr. Shahin M Rahimian, DO

I was exited to meet dr Rahimian because I had read that he takes time to listen. He talked to me standing up with his back facing me and I didn’t feel he wanted to know a lot about my symptoms. He quickly felt irritated with my questioning. He prescribed a série of test without explanations and I had to go to my general practitioner to go over the paperwork with all the different tests. The visit was short, unpleasant and frustrating for both doctor and patient. However I do not have a choice but continue with him since it’s so hard to get an appointment with a gastroenterologist. Can I trust him with a colonoscopy? Can I trust his expertise? I am left wondering!

I am a new patient to Dr. Rahimian and a bit anxious to start over with a new gastroenterologist. He was absolutely a blessing to me! Very professional, courteous, and thorough. He is a busy doctor, but still took the time to discuss my results at length and make sure that I understood the plan. He seems to genuinely care. That is hard to come by these days. I have been in the medical field for over 20 years and have worked with a lot of Physicans and he is definitely one I feel that I can trust. So glad I found him!

He patiently listened and recorded the details of my gastro-ingest issues that were getting more intense over the years. Dr R explained in a very "easy to understand" way what he thought might be going on and what tests we needed to do. He found the causes, we began treatment - adjusting as necessary, and have been having routine followups and scopes for over 15 years now. I have every confidence in Dr Rahimian. I was fired for missed appts which is untrue as I cancelled one within the alotted amount of time. I had to make another appt and the receptionist said she would have to ask him because he needed to see me. I just saw him as he already in the process of testing me. She never called me back until a couple of weeks ago which was many months later. I only know my results from mychart.

During a period when I had been very ill with digestive tract problems and saw the doctor in the hospital, he acted irritated and did not communicate very well. During the test conducted did not directly communicate in the hospital. Had to get up from the nurses. Performed colonoscopy gave 30 second update in hospital, indicated his office would call the following week to schedule a followup. After a week and a half, called and was told nothing wrong and no need for followup. As for followup and was given an appointment 30 days later. Asked the questions about the followup appointment and was told he didn't have additional information and we should go someplace else such as Hopkins. His office and which reflects how he operated did not want to be bothered, because I did not fit into his routine, colonoscopy, fix minor things he can handle otherwise you have disrupted his little world. Be careful if you need a GI doctor, because if you question him or your problem doesn't fix… his limited scope of interest you will have a problem and lose valuable time getting the proper help.

I was sent to Dr. Rahimian for Gastro problems. He did an upper Endo and everything was OK. However, he was unhappy with the results of my colonoscopy that was done by another. The first Dr. did not get a good scope because the prep wasn't good and told me to wait 5 to 8 years. Dr. Rahimian decided to do another. Driving home the Friday after my procedure, around 6pm, Dr. Rahimian called me personally to tell me that the polyp that was removed was cancerous and wanted me to go to UMD and have a more thorough scope done to make sure he got it all. I thank God every day that he did that second colonoscopy because Stage 1 rectal cancer could have become worse had I waited 5 years like the other Dr suggested

Went to Dr. Rahimian for digestive issues. Even after a polyp was removed during a colonoscopy he performed, the symptoms persisted. After nearly 3 weeks, though I was assured I would be called with test results from the colonoscopy, I called to get the results myself. The receptionist impatiently read the report to me. I called his office twice after that, concerned about persisting problem, but was told to wait another 2 months for the follow-up appointment. The doctor seemed concerned at the follow-up and ordered more tests. Was again told to wait to hear results from them. Did not hear back about test results so called to get them. I did not fully understand the test results the receptionist read to me. Digestive problems persisted. I called to make an actual appointment with doctor to discuss test results. When I saw him he seemed annoyed and impatient with my own concern in finding out exactly what my problem could be and why I didn’t understand the test results. He… ordered more tests. I specifically asked the receptionist if I would be called with the results and she once again assured me that I would be. That was 6 weeks ago. Never heard from them. In the meantime, a friend suggested I start removing things from my diet to see if that would help. When I decided on my own to remove dairy products from my diet, my digestive problems subsided significantly. Simple fix. Thousands of dollars wasted on tests. I’m lactose intolerant! Had he worked with me as a person rather than a body to run tests on, this could have saved me more than 6 months of misery. He likes performing surgery, and he likes ordering tests. You will have to beg for your test results. And he isn’t able to figure out your issues if the results don’t show up on a test. Is this what “being a doctor” is nowadays? What happened to “concern for the patient”? You will find little of in his office. Go to a different doctor!

Dr. Rahimian cares about his patients is very smart and makes himself available I would advise any family member to go see him for any GI problems
