Dr. Shamsuddin S Pepermintwala, MD

Dr. Pepermintwala is an exceptional doctor that cares about his patients and will go to great lengths to get to the source of any issues. He is thorough and will go the extra mile to ensure that patients are informed and have the tools they need. He is attentive and will take as much time as is necessary for each appointment. He leaves no stone unturned. He treats his patients with as much care as he would his own family members. Patients should be prepared for extended wait times to be seen, but it is totally worth it. He deserves 5 stars!

Do your research, listen to the reviews, these things all happened to me as well, that they describe in the other reviews. I also got "forgotten" after supplying my UA and waiting for 2 1/2 hours to see someone because my meds were due for refill. They were astonished to find me still sitting there when they were closing the clinic down. Apparently I wasn't watching my cell phone loud enough for them to remember I had given them a specimen cup and been told to wait in the room for someone. They sumbit UA charges (youre required to have one every time you go in for an appointment) in the amount of $4000. My insurance was charged TWO fees for each visit I made, the bill contained charges for educational information or some kind of booklets that I was never given. Isn't that some kind of fraud? Ive been overcharged, my insurance has been overcharged. I found a suspicious charge to my insurance in the amount of $20,000 they couldn't explain to me. I asked for an appointment after… work, since they did stay open until 8 or 9PM, being that the psychiatrist takes people walking in on "emergencies" on your appointment time and then takes 3 hours to come see you. I got charged for an after hours appointment first time in 2 years and they still keep sending me the bill. My insurance told me that I don't pay anything outside of my copay and yet this office persists. They're the ones who set the appointment up. I couldn't make an appointment on a workday and expect I'd be able to come to work when it was done, because I could be waiting to see the Dr for 5 hours at a time, how am I supposed to explain that to my boss? You literally need to take the entire (weekday mind you) off to see this doctor and not expect you will be seen at your time, but at his leisure. He demands that you drink protein shakes he drinks, take the vitamins and DO NOT take any over the counter pain relievers or consume caffeine or you will be made to feel like a dog for doing so. He interjects his religious views as a reason to calm any grieving you are doing with excruciating familial deaths. He is NOT a nutritionist and you should NOT take that kind of advice from someone who has not been educated in that field. I will recommend dr ken berry since he has been and takes e-visits if you need nutritional advice. I felt small when having to talk to him. I have never felt so inadequate in my life, except at a terrible job where I worked with a narcissist as my boss. I don't think it's possible to make a person feel more inferior and unimportant, you need to start hearing people HEAR THEM or take less of a case load so you can care about the ones you do keep. This Doctor is overloaded, overwhelmed and overworked, by his own hand. Stop sending me bills for something I don't owe, I am not going to pay that. My insurance already advised me that you are in the wrong here.

This office is a sham. At my first appointment, I was basically told to take SEVEN different vitamins and drink 3 protein shakes a day to cure my anxiety. I have a real medical diagnosis for anxiety and this place is a joke. Honestly, they are dangerous for patients who really need help. I followed all of the instructions I was given and was told to come back in two weeks if I wanted meds. I did just that. This time when I arrived, they were turning away patients that didn't have cash. I was LIVID. After basically throwing a fit, the office agreed to hold a check until my next appointment. Apparently, the doctor didn't want to renew his contract with Visa. SHAM!!!!!!!! I couldn't believe they were just going to turn me away (AND I HAVE INCREDIBLE HEALTH INSURANCE WITH A ZERO BALANCE). iF YOU NEED A REAL PSYCHIATRIST, DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE.

If you do decide to go here, get ready for a good shaking down of your money. The visiting drug tests and mouth swabs will cost you thousands of dollars because they send them to out of network labs. A 6-panel drug test that will cost you $10 at Walmart will cost >$400 here. If you go more than twice in one week the participating Mesa Hills lab does not like that and will bill you thousands extra. I would not allow them to swab your mouth either, a few months down the road you will get a bill from Mesa Hills for $2400. Ask them how much it costs, and they will tell you they cannot get that information. They will not even tell you if it is in-network or out-of-network. Even if they say it is in-network, you can still be footed for the bill of an out-of-network lab. Do not attribute to ignorance to what you can attribute to shear malice here. Leonard Shae, the nurse practitioner, is also in on this legal racket.

I came here to get my prescription refilled. Paid my money, sat through a chat with them, left. No prescription. So I called. Put me on hold. 20 minutes later I decided to go back to see whats up...I am still on hold....I walk in and the office staff is busy talking, playing music, etc. WHILE I AM LITERALLY STILL ON HOLD AND STANDING AT THEIR WINDOW. Now they tell me that I must wait 24 hours for my prescription. I am leaving town today...like waiting on this medication to leave. Why did they not tell me before??? They text the doc in another country and blah blah blah. Worthless. They overcharge do unnecessary lab work and are completely mismanaged. Save a ton of money and time and go somewhere else.

Lied to by the P.A. which cost me $240 for the appointment and time wasted from work. Horrible expierience!

The doctor takes time with each patient so the waiting times are long. Once you are in with him, he listens to everything you have to say and tries to help come up with solutions that work best for you. If you disagree with how his suggestions, he shows no offense and works to come up with a solution that works best for your family.

Agonizingly long wait. Been called back and have been now waiting over 2 1/2 hrs with my young toddler. Great doctor, but don't plan anything for the rest of your day when you have an appointment

This doctor is the best I have seen! He got into the medical field for the right reasons, cause he cares about people not cause they are numbers aka turn and burn. I have worked in the medical for 8 years, and I find it sickening that doctors look at patients as a dollar sign and not a living person. No doctor has listened to me ever and yes I waited an hour to see him but he took 2 hours with me for an hour slot! He is really down to earth. He has more expensive rates but I promise you that for me it was worth every penny. Great listener and knows exactly what he is doing! I would recommend this doctor in a heart beat!

Dr Permintwala did a great job diagnosing me (ADHD). But for my treatment I'll be finding someone with a gentler approach. Every time I see him, he reinforces the idea that he knows what's best for me - and that I don't. Complete "I'm the doctor and I'll decide what to do." He can be insensitive (has made rude and unnecessary comments about my weight, the fact that I don't have any kids "yet," etc) and doesn't seem to care or notice how (un)comfortable I am with what's going on. I can get into his office in a day or two when needed. But the wait times are horrible (3 hours for my first appt, an hour+ for regular ones). You've got to proactively speak up, but he will spend time listening to you. He seems to be a good doctor clinically but Dr P is not of a collaborative mindset. Not the pdoc for me.
