Dr. Shannon Suo

Full disclosure: I was mistakenly referred to Dr. Suo by an attending doc, who for some reason didn't realize I had told my PCP that I was already seeing a Psychiatrist. I didn't realize the mistake until Dr. Suo told me. Perhaps she was frustrated by the mistake, but she treated me rather poorly, was dismissive, and acted like I came begging for a specific diagnosis. I would have much preferred she end or cancel the appt instead of uttering a word to me. Her bedside manner is beyond terrible. My intent in seeing my PCP was to address cognitive issues. Dr. Suo's main advice was to "see my current therapist more" and to "take a more active role in my therapy, not just talk about how I'm feeling." Again, she should have just told me nothing. I left the appointment feeling much worse than when I arrived. I understand the mix up by the attending doc was to blame for the referral, but for god's sake, Dr. Suo could have just told me to discuss these issues with my current Psychiatrist. There… was no need for her to give her terrible and condescending "advice." After 5 minutes with my regular Psychiatrist, who has been in practice for over 30 years, she was able to see what was going on with me after describing my symptoms (which she was already familiar with, for the most part), and also thought Dr. Suo was not only wrong for how she treated me, but said she thinks Dr. Suo is completely wrong about her belief that this particular ailment doesn't suddenly appear in adulthood. I honestly pity the person that has to see Dr. Suo regularly. Doctors don't have to be our best friends, but they also shouldn't be unkind, dismissive, and down-right mean.
