Dr. Sharon Jean Johnstone, MD

One of the worst experiences I have had with a doctor. I did not have much choice but to see this doc as there are not many in her field. My appointment was for 10:30 but I was not seen until 11:30. From 11:30 to 12:30 she asked me questions - everything from have I smoked to where I lived when I was a child. At first I thought she was being thorough but when she asked in depth about a throat surgery I had when I was 9 yrs old, I started to question all of this. I was there for double vision!!! I realized at the end the reason for the million questions - when she tells you her charge - $650!!! She says "Because it was a very thorough exam". After the questions she asked me to do a visual field test and the machine was maybe 50 yrs old - and took 20 minutes!! I do visual field tests at regular docs and they are 2 -3 min. long. Then she asks me to go wait and come back in 30 minutes. I went to grab a bite to eat and came right back but she did not see me again until 3!!! As soon as she… saw me she started lecturing me about dry eye!!! I wanted to scream. I was there for double vision. If I dare questioned her she got angry with me. Even when she looked in my eyes she was rude. Once I looked the wrong way and she yelled at me. She then said she had a patch I could use for my dry eye and left and did not come back for 15 minutes and finally came back with a dated old patch and said it was the only one she had so she could not give it to me. Finally she said "You have 6th nerve palsy" and immediately her cell phone rang and she said she had to take the call. At this point I am panicking at the diagnoses but she is on the phone with her car mechanic!!! She finally hangs up and when I question the diagnosis she says "well if I had a crystal ball I could tell you why you have it". Then her receptionist comes in and asks if she can close the front window because it is closing time and the doctor gets up and leaves the office again. Finally I am done (long story short) and we walk up to the front where she tells me it is $650. I am shocked!! I asked if I could make payments and she says I can make 3 at the most. The receptionist then says ' how do I figure that out?" and the doctor did the math on a piece of paper!!! The receptionist then uses a calculator app on her phone and says 'I don't know, its $215 and a bunch of numbers". I am not making this stuff up!!! I can't write anymore as this is so long but I think you can see how bad this visit was

for 18 months and 5 specialists no one could explain my fatigue. In 5 minutes dr. johnstone recognized my problem, being that one eye lid had trouble opening in the morning. she had no knowledge of my fatigue, i requested an appointment based on my eye lid problem.! She immediately recognized it as ' the eye lid is the weakest muscle in your body' and proceeded to explain the muscle to nerve diseases and referred me to the right doctor!!!! Amazing just amazing!

I have seen Dr. Johnstone a few times over the last several years. I never had a great feeling after any of my visits however she is one of only a few Neuro eye specialist in the valley. My visit today was the straw that broke the camels back. She was RUDE! I waited a half hour (which is good for Dr. Johnstone, normally much longer) and after 15 minutes into our visit, she abruptly dismissed me by saying "I dont want to talk about this anymore" and walked out of the office. I just sat in the chair in disbelief because I did NOTHING to prompt such a reaction. She did not want to answer appropriate questions that were totally related to the subject, she wanted to put me on a medication that I explained I could have serious side effects due to past experience. I waited for her return because I wasn't sure if we were done or not. When she did return, she promptly said 'we are done for today'. I got up and grabbed my purse and asked her very calmly "why are you being so rude to… me...just curious". She replied "I do not think I was being rude". Quite the contrary, she was RUDE. There is more to the story however I will end there. Upon paying my co pay and leaving the office, it was brought to my attention that Dr. Johnstone rushed out of the office ahead of me because she wanted to get to the cafeteria before it closed. Need I say more...Cant make this stuff up!

I was very pleased with my first office visit. The Dr. was patient, thorough and provided a print out of my results after the tests were completed. I would recommend this office.

She and her office person were both very unprofessional. When she, the doctor asked a question, the doctor would then shush me so she could type half the answer which wasn’t complete. She’d run from room to room to room simultaneously seeing patients which extends the appointment out to a whole morning or longer. She was extremely unculturally aware in how to communicate with people who are from other backgrounds. The receptionist wasn’t able to understand what you were asking her because she also would talk over you. The whole thing would have been a total waste of time except that she did see the beginning of glaucoma which was unrelated to what I went to see her for and for that I’m grateful, but then I’m not sure she actually documented the field of view so other doctors may follow-up (my regular doctor hasn’t been able to get this as of yet and that was 6 months ago). The whole thing was a very odd disconcerting experience.

Very intelligent and professional in her field. Appreciated her expertise and helpfulness at a stressful medical time.

Very unhappy with my last visit. Wait time was over an hour and doctor did not explain anything in terms that I could understand. She accused me of having anxiety and that the anxiety was driving my line of questioning. Completely unproffessional and unethical.

She is fantastic.

She was knowdgable, through, and clear in her recommendationso for treatment.
