Dr. Sharyn N Lewin has the following 2 specialties
- Obstetrics & Gynecology
- Gynecologic Oncology
Gynecologic oncologists specialize in cancers that occur in the female reproductive system. This includes ovarian cancer, cervical cancer and endometrial cancer, as well as the less commonly talked about female reproductive cancers like vulvar cancer, vaginal cancer and fallopian tube cancer.
In addition to diagnosing the stage of your cancer and recommending treatment options, they’ll provide care throughout your treatment and help you manage your symptoms. They’ll often work closely with a pathologist and a radiologist to properly diagnose you and determine if your cancer is shrinking or spreading throughout treatment. They’re even trained to administer chemotherapy and to perform surgery to remove cancer when necessary.

A very caring doctor indeed. Visits and spend time with you everyday while you are in the hospital.. Listens and works with you. And the follow up , even her staffs very sweet and very professional.. amazing. I work in one of the prestigious hospital in NY, but I chose Dr Lewin. I am so proud and lucky to have her as my surgeon. Highly recommendated.
I have been seeing Dr. Lewin for two years, had two surgical procedures with her. It would be hard to say enough good things about her. Key items: 1. She is an excellent surgeon. I base this assessment on my own experience and inside word from others who would definitely know about her surgical outcomes overall. 2. She is unbelievably kind. Maybe I am just too used to NY doctors who are actually from NY. Her manner goes far beyond being courteous, nice, etc. Particularly if you are facing a cancer diagnosis, having a doctor who is this kind and caring is fantastic. 3. She is really smart without a trace of arrogance. She is a wonderfully collaborative doctor, happy to suggest getting second opinions, very willing to work with others if there is anything tricky or unusual going on. Not at all shy about calling around to get advice and opinions from colleagues. On top of this willingness to gather all the useful available information, from what I have seen she has excellent clinical judgement and intuition, just the sort of person you want to synthesize these sometimes disparate opinions into a sensible treatment plan. The problem is that medicine is an imprecise art, and there is certainly a lot that is still unknown about cancer biology. And it is a fast moving field. If you are facing a cancer diagnosis, I think it is imperative to find someone you can trust and someone who you feel is willing to work with you and others, if need be. I have to add that I also consulted with a couple of people at the venerated Sloan-Kettering at the time of my diagnosis. While I know people who have had great experiences with Sloan in other divisions, I was not impressed by the personalities I encountered there in gyn oncology. 4. I've always had very good experiences with scheduling and all my interactions with the office staff. Surgeons have emergencies, it is the nature of their work that there may be days when something happens and they get thrown off their schedule. My first surgery needed to be rescheduled 2 days before it was scheduled to happen due to some kind of emergency on Dr. Lewin's end. But after 2 years, 2 surgeries, and probably about 10 office visits I would have to say I am totally happy with the scheduling aspect of my care. The person who complained about waiting and then getting only a 2 minute consultation should be grateful that she only needed 2 minutes to get good news. Trust me, if the news is not good, you will not feel rushed. 5. Presbyterian Hospital consistently ranks top in NYC. If you need to have major surgery, it is a comfort to know that not just your surgeon is great, but the whole hospital is outstanding. 6. Dr. Lewin is unbelievable kind and caring. I know I already said that, but it is so striking that it is worth repeating. In summary, I hope you never really need a gyn oncologist. I know that Dr. Lewin declined to see someone I sent her way because there really was no risk of cancer. But if your diagnosis might be cancer, I think you would be very hard pressed to find someone better to trust your life to than Dr. Lewin.
Dr.Lewin recently removed a mass on my ovary-I was in excellent hands! She was approachable, easy to talk to --she took the time to answer questions --went over all details and she truly eliminated the apprehension that comes with the unknown. I have no doubt that she is an excellent surgeon. Her staff is responsive and very helpful.
