Dr. Shawn Luke Horwitz, DO

I needed hernia surgery and was referred to Dr. Horwitz. I got an appointment quickly. I needed a doctor who would be very patient and understanding. My fear was extreme. He took the time to answer all of my questions and put my mind at ease. He explained the entire procedure and recovery in detail. I called after my appointment with more questions and he took even more time to ease my mind. After the surgery I had another concern, again he helped me. He went above and beyond to care for me as a patient. I would highly recommend him to someone else.

Dr Horowitz made this whole process wonderful. He is so kind and cares so much for his patients. His bedside manner is exceptional, even with a patient that cried through an entire biopsy. He does not abide by “doctors hours” and that’s a great thing. Twice he had called me after hours to check up on my after a biopsy and then again surgery and to give me pathology reports. We discussed all options for treatment and he ultimately left the decision up to me. I would feel comfortable with him performing surgery on me in the future. I wish all doctors cared about their patients as much as he does!

without insurance its hard to care for a medical emergency. not only did Dr Horowitz repair my fiance's extreme hernia.. he gave him total follow up care until all was well. He was so friendly and warm to care about us and not about a paycheck. We are foever in his debt as he truly saved a life and showed us that there are people that care. I recommend Dr Horowitz not only for his skills, but for his incredible bedside manner. He took away our fears and comforted a very sick man. Truly an angel of mercy

My wife had a ruptured appendix and had surgery by Dr. Horwitz at midnight and he was in to check on her every day since. A very attentive and caring physician. We recommend him highly.

Dr. Horwitz is an EXCELLENT doctor! He is kind, compassionate and caring. He is incredibly thorough and took the time to explain everything and answer all of our questions after I was diagnosed with breast cancer. He personally called me to check on me prior to my bi-lateral mastectomy and after the surgery was completed. He didn't wait until an office visit to go over the pathology reports, he called me as soon as they came in and then went over them completely at the appointment. I would recommend him to anyone who needs to see a breast specialist. He is wonderful!

Dr. Horwitz preformed a laparoscopic cholecystectomy. I had an ultrasound which showed stones but when surgery was performed I had chronic inflammation and my gallbladder had stuck to other organs and had to be peeled off and a drain tube put in. Dr. Horwitz made sure after surgery to fully explain everything that had happened and ask if I had any questions and to assure me that all had went well. During the office post op visit he removed the drain and took time to talk and make sure I was feeling fine and didn't have any questions. He is a very caring doctor and I wouldn't hesitate to see him again if needed.

Dr. Horwitz came in, sat with me and explained what he was going to do. He did a biopsy of my thyroid. He constantly asked, "are you ok, can you feel anything?" He made sure I was comfortable, with as little pain as possible associated with a biopsy. He had to take a needle and stick it into my thyroid, located in my neck, for those of you who don't know. He had to get several samples, so he stuck me several times, once the numbing medication took affect of course. After each stick the nurse would take the needle away and he would stand at my side with his hand on my shoulder reassuring me that it was going to be ok and he was going to take great care of me. Well, about 2 days later I found out that I had a rare type of nodule on my thyroid. He gave me my options and helped me figure out which was best for me based on my diagnosis. Since then I've had my thyroid totally removed, I'm on medication daily but I feel much better than I have in a long time. I'm Thankful everyday for his… warm, kind and humble mannerisms, plus his intelligence. I would definitely go to him for a different health issue, plus refer my family and friends.

Well. Wow ... Long review but this needs to be said This doctor is a surgeon out of MMC now ... 2 visit different issues ..has effected my continual care with his blantant disregard to the Human nature of fear and pain. He comes off as caring and sympathetic ,until you question his logic on treatment options and Your possible other options .... Seems to let his personal opinion of a patient influence their quality of care. Waited a while to see a surgeon, "he's great" they say:-/ I was very excited to discuss my options with him! Basically , he wanted to remove a functioning thyroid for nodes only would not discuss any other options of partial or dissection :-/ Did not like that I am not "cut " happy. (2nd opinion at Vanderbilt specialist did NOT remove). Was upset in office after he seemed to blow me off while explaining my fears of life without a thyroid. 2nd Visit I was scheduled to see another surgeon in his office for dysfunctional Galbladder <10% and they moved… me to him. I thought "Ok maybe I did judge to harshly and I was upset that day ". He was worse the second time ... He was like were gonna remove it but I interrupted asking if this was my only option ..can they heal do i have any choices BUT surgery ? He says NOT removing it .... DID NOT DISCUSS A single thing about why it needed not removed or removed just nodded and repeated me after I asked about the high percentage of people it didnt help ... I was SO HAPPY to know what caused my pain and to KNOW it was almost over !!! He blew me off like I was not a person and deserved answers to My healthcare.... CRUSHED me emotionally ....since I have been and I Still am living with questions he refused to discuss. I dont know anything except my Galbladder is dyskfunctional and am NOW waiting for Gastric REVISIT to discuss what they said and basically could not believe he had not and he should have discussed with me :-/ Biggest issue I had was the fact because he was questioned about procedures and options he acted offended. I was crying again in his office when he basically told me he couldnt help me ... As walking out the door .... He wrote undiagnosed mental condition , emotionally unstable and patient is constantly crying and upset AGAIN in my office. (Is he a psychologist ? Just saying since he felt to mark my record for the next doctor to jump in the "crazy" bandwagon when you have a chronic illness of no definition ... Well Doctor Horowitz ....maybe if you would explain something and act like I wasnt doomed to this life (horrible pain weight loss +100 ...just major issues ) I thought were fixable to be blown off I wouldn't be crying ..... For the record ,I went and seen a doctor at vanderbilt for my issues with him and his "report" She said I am mentally fine..... If your in the situation to need to know answers or ask questions or do not want to blindly Have surgery OR your fear can make you Cry ... I highly suggest NOT going to him, Especially 2 times because There is no "fake compassion " Extremly uncompasionate the second time....
