Dr. Sheri Ellen Spirt, MD

Nasty to you, nasty to her assistant right in front of you, spends the whole appointment cooing at her dog and letting it lick her face, and then complains that everyone is nasty to her and she doesn't have enough time for her appointments. Stares at her computer screen instead of looking you in the eye. The only reason I've seen her for any length of time is that she took my insurance and blindly prescribed my meds. The person who most needs a psychiatrist is her.

Dr Spirt is one of the few psychiatrists who accepts affordable insurances, but goodness does she nickel and dime you to make up for it. Her coldness and lack of empathy towards anything is also abhorrent. More often than not, I scheduled appointments with her that we're supposed to last 20-30 minutes, but she would send me away after a measly 5 minutes of talking to me and then complain if I ask more questions because "I'm too busy, if you want to take up more of my time I'll have to charge you for another session". And the nickel and diming is absolutely atrocious, especially considering the vulnerable types of patients she sees as a Psychiatrist. You want a note for work? $100 charge. Prescription needs to be called in? Charge A simple copy of your chart that you need sent to another doctor? $.75 per page they have to fax Any kind of paperwork for FMLA/Disability/etc? "I charge $400 an hour and I'll tell you how much you owe me after I fill it out. Please leave a… credit card on file with my secretary." It is absolutely abhorrent how much she takes advantage of her vulnerable patient population to make herself more money.

Told me I had low self esteem and overcharged me.

Dr Spirt is an uncompassionate pill pusher. I am convinced she enjoys seeing people sick so she can continue to push pills and make her money. I have never seen such a greedy doctor. She is taking your money before you sit down and calling insurance companies over and over again while you are in session. I am a highly functiong individual who weaned myself off of zoloft and I had awful withdrawal effects. I ended up in the ER and the physicians were completely aware of the insomnia and anxiety that comes along with withdrawal syndrome. Dr Spirt denied the withdrawal symtomes and gave me no coaching as to how to come off of it. She simply said come off of it and I got so sick. She then accused me of being psychotic because I was such a mess from withdrawal. She is a money hungry, pill pushing, odd woman who talks to her dog half of her seesion. I would definitely not bother with this woman. Again the greed is unbelievable.

Never once had a medical professional charge 70+ dollars for routine initial paperwork, which she called unique and exclusive to her practice. A fraudulent process that I naively thought was a benefit only given to affluent UES/UWS patients. Thankfully, I later learned better. More to point, however, her space is dripping with oppression and arrogance. Support staff were like minions. (Why does one practice need so many back office workers?) Once admitted from a gloomy waiting area, her personal office is a spacious dog park, covered in chewed up toys. Never once was the concept of someone being afraid of, or allergic to, dogs brought into consideration. Created a sense of intimdation and threat, and supreme arrogance that if you do not defer to her without subjugating yourself, then you are inferior as a person. The entire experience was threatening, which made me feel coerced into paying the bogus intro fee

I found her rude and abrasive. I only saw her a handful of times, mostly because she was covered by my insurance, and it was a handful too many.

When I initially saw Dr. Spirt, I could barely get out of bed to face the world. She is a miracle worker. I'm a totally different person able to cope with every day life; I canâ??t believe Iâ??m happy. I just wish I would have listened to my friends, with regard to seeing a psycho pharmacologist. She has transformed my life. Awesome and fantastic! And the BIG perk is that she has an adorable lovable dog that instantly brings you back to the realities of what is important in life.

I went into Dr. Spirt weary because most med combos I've tried haven't worked. As a patient with severe anxiety, depression and insomnia, I felt I needed lots of help and would need to go to several appointments to feel better. Within a WEEK of visiting Dr. Spirt, I feel normal again. I feel happy, at ease and am sleeping better. She did a fantastic job diagnosing my symptoms and finding a treatment that would work for me. I can't endorse her enough or thank her enough for helping me come out of an anxious/depressed fog I've been in for two years. For the first time since I've been diagnosed with depression and anxiety, I feel like an optimistic, functional human being again, and I really do credit that to Dr. Spirt

Dr. Spirt changed my life. I had been struggling with an issue that I did not even know was a real thing until I saw her. My own therapist that I had been seeing for a year recommended her. A huge weight lifted off my shoulder just from our first appointment. She is a true doctor, not a counselor. She is not there to spend hours listening to people cry and complain. She is a doctor who has incredible experience and knowledge. She is a New Yorker and does not waste time, which I loved and so appreciated. I needed someone to come up with a plan and be straight forward with me. I have been seeing her for over a year now and have never once felt that she only cared about money. The people who are complaining about her on these sites are embarrassing. A good doctor/therapist is not a hand-holder. Who complains about having a dog in the office? That is a LUXURY! I got so much more out of our 20 minute sessions than I ever did out of hour long therapy sessions with someone else… (even though I could talk to Dr. Spirt all day and tell her everything because I love her!). I recommend her to anyone who can't dig themselves out of an emotional issue or can't see clearly. If you are ready to seriously deal with your issues then this is the person for you. Seeing her was the BEST DECISION OF MY LIFE.

A little bit intimidating. Not the warm smiley type but seems to understand medications.
