Dr. Silber came highly recommended. We were a first time successful IVF case after failing to become pregnant after VR. Dena is an amazing asset to this office. We will be forever grateful to Dr. Silber, Dr. DeRosa and their staff.

Horrible experience! You’re just a paycheck to them. The staff has no compassion—none. Getting anyone to return a phone call is almost impossible. The contract is VERY one-sided in favor of the clinic. Did I mention the staff is cold and lacks compassion. Our coordinator is incompetent—-but, they collect your fee——over and over with mo results—-mo answers—-no compassion. There has to be a better option!!

We had a VR by Dr. Silber 29 years ago. Even then, he was world renown for successful VR microsurgery. We knew another couple who WERE successful. But, unfortunately, our sperm count was zero on every test out to 24 months! We had no previous attempt at VR and we were assured that our chance of success was very good. The process was satisfactory. We flew to St. Louis and checked into St Luke's Hospital. Dr. Silber and his staff and the Hospital were all very friendly, respectful, and professional. Dr Silber said that he found live sperm in the vas that he successfully reconnected on both sides. We were very optimistic at first! The post-OP instructions were followed very carefully. We spent well over $20,000 in 1990 for the procedure and we were greatly disappointed. Our Insurance paid nothing. Following 2 years of zero sperm count, we received a letter from Dr. Silber's office saying that he was very concerned about our failure, but he offered an even more expensive IVF… procedure with microsurgically extracted sperm. We passed on the offer, having too little confidence in ultimate success. We never conceived, but adopted two baby girls over the following 9 years. Our older daughter is now married and just delivered our first grand child. God's Blessings on your your endeavors to start a family!

Let me just say, I did a lot of research before going to this doctor. I also had two nearly successful rounds of IVF with other physicians in my home state; however I had high hopes about mini IVF and the success that Dr. Silber claims for women over 40. Unfortunately being treated by him was the worst experience which made feel like I was conned. First, I only saw him at my initial consultation then again at retrieval. That was it! He didn’t even have the empathy to contact me differently after my failed IVF. I was contacted via email by the IVF coordinator. On top of that, I had to outreach to her to inquire about Dr. Silber’s recommendation of next steps after my failed cycle. Also; this office and the overall process is extremely impersonal and lacks any and all sense of empathy. They hurdle you through the steps and make you coordinate with each individual specialist. For example, you have to outreach to the hospital yourself to pay the surgical fees, the fees for the other… attending physician, etc... Again, this was the worst medical experience in my life and I have seen many top notch physicians over the years.

We have known Dr. Silber now for over 24 years, how do I know? We have the most wonderful two kids in the world, twins, one boy and one girl all thanks to the efforts of Dr. Silber. He has become a very close friend and close confidant in all of our medical issues. I trust him on everything/ anything pertaining to the medical field, he is a brilliant man !!!

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to post a review about this topic as it is such a personal experience. However, in early 2017 - I desperately scoured the internet in search of recent experiences related to reversals performed by Dr. Silber. I couldn’t find much after 2012. I have come to the conclusion that the majority of couples do not want to talk about something like this publicly - more so when the results are not what you had hoped for. My husband had a vasectomy reversal 13 months ago. Our 4, 7 and 12 month semen analysis (SA) were all zero. No sperm seen. We are in contact with 3 couples who had their reversals by Dr. Silber relatively close to ours - give or take a few months. All showing no sperm seen thus far and they were also one sided reconnections. One of the big areas of concern for us was communication. We had placed the $2,000 deposit to schedule surgery over the phone. I called soon after placing the deposit to request a date change and was told by Jan the date could… not be changed to any other day or we lose the 2k.. regardless of reason. Keep in mind, we were still 2 months ahead of the surgery date as well. We went ahead with the original surgery date as planned. We had a phone consultation the day before surgery and Dr. Silber was highly optimistic. Vasectomy was right under 6 years old and this would be my husband’s first attempt ever having it reversed. Nothing was ever mentioned during consultation that Dr. Silber only reconstructs one side now and not both. $11,000 we paid not including travel expenses for one side. We didn’t find out about the one side situation until my husband woke up from anesthesia. After arriving home, I called the office to see what happened and why the right side was not attempted. Was informed by Dena that Dr. Silber no longer connects the second side if he feels the first side had a perfect reconnection. Interesting - this was news to us and never mentioned to us prior. Incision was large - approximately 5 inches. Healed with no complications, no bruising, and very minimal swelling if any at all. My husband was sore for an extended amount of time, but healing process went great. He took two weeks off work and did no lifting of anything over 10lbs (not even a grocery bag) for 4 weeks. Also no ‘releasing’ until 4 weeks post op. Followed all drs orders. What hurts the most is a false sense of hope. SA after SA we were just told it can take 12 months for sperm to return by Dr. Silber’s office. Was also informed by his office after month 7 SA, (no sperm seen) that Dr. Silber reviewed the notes from surgery and he thought we had a great chance for sperm return. We were also quoted a patency success rate of 95% during our consultation, but he really didn’t see us falling in that 5%. After getting the post-op report - we found out it didn’t appear to be a great chance for success at all. Our vasoepididymostomy (VE) was connected at the head of the epididymis which based on what little knowledge we do have about this sort of thing.. that’s a worst case scenario. That was not mentioned either. The hospital itself was fantastic. All the staff there were amazing! I really felt my husband was safe in their care, but at the end of the day - opening this door to a vasectomy reversal has been heartbreaking and expensive for an incomplete procedure.

Also, for cost efficiency, his practice in Snt. Louis Missouri Way out preforms than say anything in California or Singapore. He's also World renoun, as many of his clients are from global contries.

We visited Dr Silber for a consult on a vasectomy reversal very recently. He requires an ultrasound for women at his vasectomy reversal consults. We were the first appointment of the day...absolutely no one else in his very small waiting room (maybe 12-14 seats). We then waited for 2 1/2 hours past our scheduled appointment and watched other couples file in until the waiting room was completely full. Only then were we finally called back. Dr Silber casually informed me that I was part of the 10% of women who have early diminished ovarian reserve and that my husband should schedule the reversal asap because I may not be fertile for much longer. That's all he told us, no numbers for the follicle count, no blood work to check my hormones. Next we were shuffled into another room where we received high pressure scheduling tactics from the scheduling manager. Telling us we should schedule now before he's all booked, only one appointment left. Something didn't sit right with me about… the whole process. Also, he requires a $2,000 non-refundable deposit at scheduling! Even if you have to reschedule you lose that money and have to put down another 2k! They create this sense of urgency with having to schedule, then trap you with that deposit. So, based on what my intuition was telling me we left without scheduling. We were disappointed as we did have high hopes, we thought we were seeing the best. Then I did A LOT more research. I found and spoke with other women whose husbands received reversals from Silber within the past 2 years. He only reconnected one side on all of them and NONE of them ever had a return of sperm...zeros at every analysis. Needless to say, they are all devistated. I also went to my OB and had blood work and antrifollicle count done a month later...she said my ovaries "look perfect" and all my hormone levels were fine. My follicle counts were great. After my experience and the experiences of others I've spoken with, I HIGHLY question Dr Silber's integrity and ethical standards. My advice...question everything no matter how set you are on him. Do your research, connect with others who have used him RECENTLY--don't pay attention to the articles from 10, 20, or 30 years ago. Whatever success rates that have been published are outdated. He claimed to only do one side connections because he can connect it "perfectly so there is no need to do the other side". I would think if these connections were so "perfect" that out of these couples I have met, at least one would have had SOME return of sperm (though perfection dictates they ALL should have had a return). Please, do your research. There are many other fabulous Vasectomy reversal surgeons out there! I simply would not trust him.
