Dr. Shira Robbins, MD

Life-changing, simply life-changing!!! At 56 years old and after 6 years of progressively worsening double-vision, to the point it was unsafe to drive, I was referred to Dr. Robbins for strabismus surgery and the results were phenomenal. Aside from the expected and immediate single-vision after the surgery, I found myself feeling less confused and less tired overall. The double-vision had me questioning everything around me and I had no idea of the brain energy I was being taxed to process and try to pull together the double-vision (even with prisms). It is no wonder that Dr. Robbins is a leading expert in this field, her skills are extraordinary for a delicate surgery such as this one. I found Dr. Robbins to be extremely kind, empathetic, and patient with my questions and concerns throughout the whole process. Her confidence and honest feedback was comforting. Every morning I wake up and am so thankful for the near perfect vision I now have, I could not be more blessed. Thank you!

After struggling for years with double vision and constantly adjusting the prism in my glasses prescription, I was referred to Dr. Robbins for an eye muscle evaluation. She was quickly able to diagnose the problem, then explain it to me, along with how she routinely performs surgery to correct it. Her explanations matched my symptoms so closely that her knowledge of eye muscle alignment was very apparent. She acknowledged other aspects of my complicated eye health and how she was taking them into consideration regarding my surgical correction. She was patient with questions, and empathic to my anxiety around the situation. She could clearly describe why the surgery would be a high reward, low risk surgery for me, without pressuring me regarding my decision to move forward. I'm so grateful for her time, explanation, and skill performing the surgery. The result has been a great relief and improving every day!

Dr. Robbins is absolutely one of the best provider/ surgeon/ ophthalmologist/ doctor I have ever had. She and her staff are the most caring, safe, precise, and thorough medical people I have ever relied on. I was very concerned about having eye surgery to correct my double vision that has been getting worse for years and finally got beyond glasses prism correction, however Dr. Robbins and her staff put my worries to rest through the initial assessments, the surgeries and follow ups- and this was all during the challenges of Covid. I have already recommended her to a family member and a neighbor. Absolutely one of the best doctors I have ever known.

My experience with Dr. Shira Robbins was superb. From the first meeting to the end result of my corrective surgery for double vision, all the way through to my follow up, she was in constant communication with me each and every step. I was referred to dr. Robbins after developing double vision at 36 years old. I had strabismus since childhood but the last year impacted my vision as well as my quality of life a lot. Dr. Robbins effectively diagnosed and treated the eye misalignment. The surgery went smooth and I would recommend dr. Robbins to anyone struggling with double vision. Opening my eyes after surgery and seeing just 1 image was emotional.

Dr. Robbins was a third opinion for my son. She was able to discover the correct issue with my son's eyes and implement the proper treatment. I find her to have a wonderful bed side manner and to be a brilliant physician.

Since Dr. Granet wasn't available we saw Dr. Robbins. That was the absolute worst experience I've ever had with a doctor for my son. She was extremely condescending. Go to any other pediatric opthalmologist if you can.

For years I have had a worsening eye condition called strabismus, where my right eye slowly began to turn in causing double vision. Prisms in my glasses corrected it, but it continued to get worse. Finally I decided to do something about it. After consulting several medical professionals, I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Robbins, at UCSD, Shiley Eye Institute. I immediately felt very comfortable with Dr. Robbins, as well as her fantastic staff. All were friendly, smiling and took the time to listen to me. Dr. Bobbins thoroughly explained the surgery and what follow up would be required. I had the surgery and knew right away it was the right choice. As soon as I woke up in the recovery room, I knew this long time problem was corrected and any worry about having it done, had been unnecessarily. You won't find a better surgeon, staff or surgery center then at UCSD. Thanks again!
