Dr. Smitha Rao Persaud, MD

I’ve been seeing Dr Persaud for many years, & she has helped me through some dark times with my headaches. She is competent, has a great bedside manner, & stays current in her specialty.

Not very happy today First off had a headache and had just drove a hour to appointment. I have had several migraine and used up all my meds for the month So ended up going to s doc in the doc 2 times leaving with several shots in the butt Needless to say they did not work. This started Friday and finely had relief Monday morning. I had to work And could not wait for my appointment on Tuesday just to be told to take Aleve or Advil not sure which I have been out of my meds for migraines for 2 weeks now That's because insurance only allows so much. So it looks like another trip to a doc in the box or ER Why can migraine suffer not get help !!!! It's like people think we are out for drugs or we are crazy I was at the point and about at the point again it's not worth this pain To be here Sorry for the rant but I just need a doctors to understand where I am coming from. I was sent to see her for migraines a couple of days after I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. My doctor did not feel like my headaches were caused from the tumor. I have been going to a pain clinic for almost 20 years. My ex husband broke my back with a baseball bat a long time ago. I waited 10 years to have surgery because I had no insurance. They fixed everything that could be fixed. After a year he sent me to the pain clinic. I don’t abuse my meds I take everything just like I am suppost to. I am not hooked on amy of my meds. I own my own business. I work very hard. Going to the pain clinic has given me quality of life?? I’m talking to this very judgmental doctor, I simply tried to ask her a question as to what to do if the headache meds were not working! Very loudly she stated” well I’ll certainly not going to give you any more meds “.. I told her that I was not asking for meds that I have pain pills. Then she said very loudly “ you go to the hospital “. And I’m sure you have… so many pain pills in your body we could never bust through them! I am not a pain pill junkie!

Dr. Persaud is a great provider -- thorough, compassionate, clinically skilled, great sense of humor, communicates thoroughly, open to patient input/preferences. Couldn't ask for a better neurologist to treat my migraines.

Dr. Persaud was very courteous and kind. She has a way to ease your mind, even when you are worried. I enjoyed working with her. She was very knowledgable and willing to help.
