Dr. Soyini Mattis Hawkins, MD

I had a hysterectomy and a rectocele. I was told 2 to 3 weeks recovery possible 6 weeks to be able go back to work. It's now more than 5 months. I haven't felt right since the operation. After three days out of surgery. Her office wouldn't recieve me when I couldn't have a BM for 5 days. I was told to go to the ER. I followed the doctor's oders. If anyone wants to accuss me of over doing, would be laying down too much. I called, asking what should I be expecting after 3 weeks. Six weeks go by, I'm at her office; I'm then told recovery can take 3 months, told my body needs more time. A little more than two months goes by, I'm not feeling much better. I felt weak, joints hurting, could not have an easy BM, being accused not drinking enough water, sever swelling, told to continue taking ibphrone and Miralax. I called my OBGYN who recommended me to Dr Hawkins. I wasn't able to make an appointment beause the first three months after surgery, the surgeon is responsible to… deal with complications I went back to Dr. Hawkins office at this time she tells me she did all she can do. Not once did she investigate why I was having complications. Dr. Hawkins recommend to see my OBGYN or my Primary care physician. She also suggested GI doctor, saying since I had problems with BM before the surgery that wasn't her expertise. I don't understand why it was necessary to have had the rectocele. The purpose of the surgery is to have an easier BM. I didn't need a Miralax for a BM before the surgery, now I have to depend on taking a laxative. Earlier today, I spoke with her nurse Jessica. She chuckled when I told her I have an ulcer. I'm stressed out because I haven't been able to work. Dr. Hawkins is not equip to deal with complications. If she is she choose to pass responsibility on to me, finding a doctor that will investigate.

Dr. Hawkins is superb all the way around. She is incredibly knowledgeable about her field, spends the necessary time needed with her patients and makes sure all of your questions are answered. Her nurse Jessica is also great and has a vast knowledge herself. I was impressed with Dr. Hawkins when I first became her patient 3 years ago because she spent at least an hour with me in consultation reviewing my case and provided more answers than I had ever received from any other GYN. I recently had her perform my hysterectomy and couldn't be more pleased. Her bedside manner is impeccable along with her surgical acumen. The nurses at Northside ATL all talked about how she was their favorite Dr. and the reasons are obvious. She is personable, real, honest and caring. She is also very accessible, providing her email for follow up questions and concerns. She also called me personally after office hours to discuss alternative options to surgery when I was still in the decision-making process.… She answered my questions with statistics and research knowledge as well as just overall kindness from one woman to another. Other GYN's were quick to recommend surgery and push you to the scheduling office without even outlining reasons, other options or projected outcomes. I can't recommend Dr. Hawkins highly enough. If you are considering having any type of GYN surgery, you should seek counsel from Dr. Hawkins before your decision. I guarantee you will be in great hands.

I am so blessed to have had Dr. Hawkins as my surgeon for many reasons! Not only was she an efficient & competent surgeon, but her bedside manner is impeccable! I couldn't have possibly had a more proficient surgeon had I dreamed one up! Lol. I'm one of those people who really research anyone who is going to be my medical professional. Simply because you only have one life, & you want the best to work with & on you. Plus, i have to be extra thorough in screening doctors because I am a transgender male. It can be very difficult to find good medical care. Someone who isn't going to treat you like an experiment or a mental case. So, you can imagine my excitement when i discovered Dr. Hawkins! My first initial visit with Dr. Hawkins was great. She took me to her office, got to know me, & asked me many questions about what i had been going through. She presented me with options I had not thought of, & gave me some new information that I had not considered. She checked me out, & I… was on my way. Days later my body went haywire!!!! It was a nightmare! I was pouring blood, & having huge blood clots. Which had happened once before. I had to change pads & tampons every 30 mins to an hour. I was experiencing difficulty even getting through the day. So, i kept in contact with her medical assistant Jessica. Jessica & Dr. Hawkins make a superb team! Jessica went above & beyond her call of duty. Any time I called her, she was so calm & reassuring! She helped me any way she could! One of the difficult parts about this whole process was that my uterus had literally grown as if i was carrying a baby. It was about 9 inches long. It was up in my abdomen. I had to go to the hospital at least 3 times, & one of those times was an overnight stay that I had to receive a blood transfusion. My leg & foot had almost doubled in size. I went to my podiatrist, & she referred me to a vascular doctor. He discovered I had multiple blood clots in both legs. My uterus was literally tearing my body apart. A year earlier I had been seeing a urologist. My uterus was causing the problem with my bladder. Dr. Hawkins had discovered that my uterus was so large that it was not only crushing my bladder, but sitting on a large vein or vessel (can't remember which) in which was causing the blood clots because the blood couldn't flow properly to my legs. Consequently, I had to have an IVC filter put in to even have the surgery. I had already had one pulmonary embolism due to the blood clots. Dr. Hawkins even admitted to me that this may be a little bit more difficult then she expected. She never gave up though. She consulted with an oncologist that specialized in difficult situations like this. She did her homework. Once I was able to finally have my surgery I was overjoyed!!!! Finally all my agony was about to be over! The day of the surgery Dr. Hawkins reassured me that everything would be fine. My surgery went spectacular. No problems during or after. Once I was okay, she even came to see me on her own personal time. I felt very taken care of by her & her team. Healing went extremely well. My incision is barely visible. My girlfriend, a nurse, even said it looked like artwork. Clean, thin, & beautiful. If you're looking for a surgeon that is intelligent, knowledgeable, & personable do yourself a favor & go to Dr. Hawkins! Best decision of my life!

I am blessed to have met Dr Hawkins. She performed my surgery 6 weeks ago and my life has changed for the better. Highly recommended!
