Dr. G Stedman Huard II, MD

I really needed to get something done about my varicose veins, I'm only 36 and too young to hurt that bad! I couldn't walk to the park with my kids without my legs throbbing and hurting for the rest of the day. After asking around, I went to see Dr Huard. Both of my legs had faulty veins. He recommended Vnus closure for the upper leg, on both legs, and a phlebectomy in my lower legs. I went to one other clinic for an eval, and was told the same thing, but wasn't terribly impressed with the other place (that I won't name here, since it's not a review of the other place!). So I scheduled the procedure with Dr Huard. The procedures were what I expected. The recovery was a little harder than I'd expected, but within reason. Now I am sooo glad I did it, my legs haven't felt better in years. The staff was extremely kind & professional. The only negative things I would say are that I actually spent very little time with Dr Huard. His nurse did most of the initial eval, I saw… him for maybe 5 minutes at that appointment. And the days of the procedures (4 different procedures on 4 different days) I saw him for only exactly as long as the procedure itself took. Other than that, it was the nurse handling everything. And I never saw him after the procedure, all follow up was with his nurse. But she was knowledgeable and answered all my questions. Also, the total cost seemed exorbitant. The staff submitted my info to my insurance company beforehand so I knew it was authorized, and they told me what the billed charges would be. I was unable to find out what the "contract " charge would be, so was a little stunned to find out that in addition to what they had already told me, there was an additional, unexplained $600 for each procedure. (4 procedures, remember) I never did find out what that was for. Anesthesia, I suppose, but there was no explanation. But you'd think that an out patient procedure (Vnus closure) that takes 1 hour and is billed at $5000 would include anesthesia, wouldn't you? Even the initial eval was shockingly expensive. For meeting with the nurse for about 30 minutes, having her do an ultrasound on my veins, and seeing the doc for 5 minutes, the total bill for $750. (that included the ultrasound) My insurance was covering it, but I had my deductible and copay and all that blah blah blah, so it's not something to just blow off. That said, I do think he's pretty darn good at what he does, and my legs are much better now. Bottom line; this guy's good, but expensive.
