Dr. Stephanie Rodriguez Kua, MD

A great listener with great advice. The only psychiatrist I've ever met that actually listens, counsels and provides careful medications dispensing. Dr. Kua is a true find.

Dr Kua is psychiatrist who is actually concerned and wants to help. She listened to me without checking the clock and didn't throw medication in my face after 15 minutes, taking the time to learn about the struggles in my life. She guided me to make a decision about medicine, encouraging therapy as an equally important counterpart (even though I have had bad experiences in the past), recommending a therapist that fits me and who has also helped me return to the person I've been waiting to get back to.

I am a nurse and am glad I am one.I am able to see the perspectives of other people under my care may it be rich or poor , young or old etc. I was brought up by my parents to see the things in life coming from a poor family and country. Your doctor comes from a well off family who migrated from a different place and tried to seek better lives in the US. That could be something in which the doctor did not show much during your appointment. However, you know how doctors are, they see you as an object to be treated not the person you ought to be. I guess your doctor still has a lot to learn about people and our own personality and life experiences bring up to who really we are and how we deal with people.

Dr. Kua doesn't want to help you, or maybe just me. She is more interested in getting you off medications than healing you, counter-productive for a psychiatrist. She does not ask you anything about your own life or experience (beyond the unnecessary probing hour of condescension of your first visit) and only infers side effects on you that she thinks you should have. She often discounts your own feelings. I felt like she was shaming me for my disorder in her assuming what I should be feeling contradicted what I was actually suffering from. I always left trying to convince myself what was happening in the appointments was alright, only to break down in tears after getting to my car. Dr. Kua is too inexperienced and, frankly, scared to actually treat patients. There is nothing necessarily wrong with being by the book, but there is something to be said about refusing to acknowledge patient's suffering just because you are unfamiliar. She seems afraid of loosing her medical licence,… the way she makes her own rules. She is cold and often cowardly in her unwillingness to treat you compassionately and shows vindictiveness to patients who tell her they are unhappy. She should have stop taking new patients months ago. Last year she had more ease of appointment, but in the last few months it is impossible to be seen any sooner than six weeks on a cancellation. I wouldn't even recommend her to somebody I don't like.
