Had back surgery Sept. of 2015, have no complaints with Dr. Boodin. My nightmare started after the surgery and having to deal with his wife. She is condescending, will talk over you and even hang up on you if you disagree with her. I was on short term disability and the insurance company would fax her for my Dr. notes. She didn't like that and faxed the insurance company back to tell them to stop faxing the Dr. office. Since my insurance company was not getting medical information to show my disability it was denied. Out of work for 2 months with no pay. But if you happen to owe them money she will demand you pay, no CC cash or check only. As my medical costs are paid out of an HSA account it makes it difficult. I could go on and on about this delusional woman, but my advise is go some where else as I have never been treated with the amount of disrespect as I was by her. Great Surgeon, needs to find a better office manager.
I waited to see Dr. Boodin for 1 and 1/2 hours and it was our first meeting. Appt. was at 1:15 and he came into room at 2:45. I was anxious and disappointed that the wait was so long. HOWEVER, I was told he was reviewing all previous tests and records before speaking with me. I believe his diagnosis was accurate and he found surgery unnecessary in my case. I see him in two weeks following some physical therapy and will record my experience then.
He was great at first, listened and seemed concerned for my husband, who has degenerative disc disease and a herniated disc. He reassured us that surgery was the only way to relieve the pain and raise his quality of life. It all went down hill after that. He didn't communicate well to us or the hospital staff post-surgery. The nurses were told different things by him and his office staff about his after care. He was forced out of bed too quickly and the catheter removed too soon which caused complications forcing him to stay in the hospital for over a week. When he was released, he had to go home with a catheter. His follow-up care was a joke. We had to wait in waiting area and the examination rooms for over 45 minutes 95% of his appointments. Someone who just had MAJOR back surgery should not be forced to sit on an exam table or stand in exam room for that long. When Boodin finally came in, he spent 10 minutes or less and brushed off our concerns; claiming it was all part of the healing process. Which we found out later was not the case.. The Clawson office staff should be ashamed of themselves for the way they treat their patients. If you ever need to call in for a refill, be prepared to get treated like a drug addict. Boodin would not tell his staff the same thing he told us so when my husband needed a refill because he was instructed to take it every 6 hours, they would say he was suppose to be weaning off the medication...... And don't approach Boodin about it, because he allows it. He only gives a three month recovery window, then pushes you off to another doctor, even tough he told us the healing could take up to a year. It has only been 6 months since his surgery, he is only 32 and now has to have a Spinal Cord Stimulator implanted permanently. Thanks Dr. Boodin, its time to retire!
I loved this surgeon! He is straightforward, he listens, he spends time getting to know and talking to the patient. His bedside manner is wonderful. He was so calm and reassuring prior to surgery. He does follow ups as needed. He even handles mini freak outs (wondering if another issue is developing) with patience. He spends time following up on every concern, he encourages yearly follow ups if it makes the patient more confident. I have recommended him to many people and will continue to do so until he chooses to no longer accept patients. I hope that he is still practicing when/if I require more work. It is true that you will wait beyond your appointment time, but that time spent is spent with patients...something most doctors no longer do. He is very much worth the wait. Bring a good book and expect to wait a while for quality and care.
