Dr. Stephen D Newman, MD

Dr. Stephen Newman is an excellent doctor. I appreciate his expertise and his thoroughness. Very patient oriented, compassionate, knowledgeable, and friendly.

First visit was interesting. Asked a lot of questions and wanted information. Seemed like too much, but I listened and went for testing. My primary sent me and I felt I was fine. I had a CAT scan for calcium buildup in my heart. It was very high. He found I was borderline diabetic. Then asked for me to do a stress test. I felt overkill. I quit smoking years ago. The stress test was very abnormal. Once again I felt overwhelmed. He sat with my wife and me and explained the results. We went to a friend’s heart doc and they reviewed and agreed. Told us they had trained under him years ago. I went for a heart angiogram and told my left main artery was a string. I saw a surgeon and admit that day. No symptoms. It was waiting silently. I just followed with Steve and we worked out a plan to reduce my risk for future problems. I initially was not excited. The surgeon in Fort Worth said I was fortunate it was discovered. Glad he spent time with me to figure it out. He was busy and took… some time to get appointment, but he’s not your typical doc. He’s like a bird dog. I thank my primary doc Khan as well. Who knew?!

I recently retired from stressful O&G job. I went to a clinic, but never felt anyone really searched. Dr N found my heart’s calcium at 1000. I failed my stress test after only 3 minutes and he admitted me that day. I had very tight main artery and my heart was pumping lower than it should. I required urgent surgery. I had no idea how bad things were. I had just avoided strenuous things. He’s busy and expects you to make changes. He refused to be my primary care doc, but offered me names of nearby docs. I’m not sure why my former doc didn’t look closer. I followed up with his assistant Amanda. She was super. I only wish’d he did more than prevention and screening.

My brother suffered a heart attack at 45. I saw another heart specialist, but he made me feel awkward for making appointment. Told me without symptoms that I was probably fine. My functional medicine doc in Plano recommended Steve. He spent time and reviewed my family history. I went for a CT scan to measure plaque in my heart and my score was off the charts. I wasn’t having chest pain, but at 55 noticed my gym stamina less. My stress test was very positive. He found me to be close to being a diabetic and suspects sleep apnea. After discussing options, I had a catheter test to look at my heart arteries. My left main and widow maker were over 90 percent closed. The doc he referred me to kept me in the hospital until the surgeon could see me. I making diet changes and seeing a sleep specialist. My heart surgery went well. I never smoked. I worked out religiously. I’m very thankful.

Just followed up. He’s been working with me for 10 years. I didn’t want a balloon procedure then or now. He explained nutrition. I finally made changes. I am off my insulin. Lost 40 pounds and feel better than ever. It took me two years to decide I would listen to him. I was stubborn. He can’t do it for you and told me I was looking for quick fix to seek care elsewhere. I am 70 now. Just did my first 5k. He is all about prevention and you better understand that from day one. He’s busy but worth my wait. I thank God for him every day.

My family doctor was concerned and sent me to see Steve. Bad family history. After some tests he found I had moderate heart blockages. He doesn’t believe in quick fixes and told me I had to make the changes. He basically told me that if was gonna smoke, over consume and sit on my butt, that he wasn’t interested in watching me get worse. He’s serious about prevention. I consider him a friend now. He’s on my side. He’s busy. Doesn’t have time to hold my hand. Tells me once and expects me to run with the ball. Just like my old TCU coach. I was pleased to see a 90 year old runner sitting in waiting room. That’s where I want to be someday.

My coworker recommended since my family has heart problems. He spent time with me. Thorough evaluation and his focus is on prevention. Convinced me to make some changes. He’s in demand and I expected it to take longer to get in. I found my visit to be worth the wait. My heart blockage was close, but didn’t need a plumbing job. He’s helped me realize I was borderline diabetic and convinced me to get back on track. Refreshing.

My heart doctor in Plano referred me. Didn't like driving to Weatherford, but very happy. I'm tired of repeat stent procedures. He spent time and listened. Lots of information to get me back on track. Breath of fresh air.

Great listener and cares. Goes beyond my prior physician. I drove over two hours to see. Well worth it.

wonderful Dr. very caring and thorough; he relates extremely well to a patient and their family. 3 people in my family have been to him over the years, and I highly recommend him even though difficult to get in if new patient
