Dr. Stephen K Kwan, MD

Dr. Kwan is the absolute best doctor ever! He saved my husband's life 10 years ago for he had an emergency triple bypass (widow maker) surgery which was 99% blocked. My husband would have died that day without the surgery! We had no idea he was that sick. We thought we were going home after they did the exray with the dye but were told that the worst case would be he might have to have a stint and the next thing I know they are rushing him into surgery right then! Thank God Dr. Kwan was on call! It was so bad that he thought he was going to lose my husband on the table but he didn't - he saved his life! He's that good of a doctor!! 1 year later Dr. Kwan saved my life for I had a punctured lung (flat as it could be) after a different doctor gave me several shots in my left shoulder with a needle too big for my small frame so I had many holes in my lung. This happened on a Thursday. I was admitted to the hospital on Friday. The hospital called Dr. Kwan on Monday morning and he did… emergency surgery on my lung which took a long time for him to find all the small holes in my lung. He told me I would have died had he not done the surgery that day. He is my hero in more than one way! LOVE him!! The best surgeon in Alabama!!

Horrible doctor

Heart cathe indicated I needed 4 bypasses and my wife insisted on Dr Kwan. From the first time I saw him, he was reassuring and expressed genuine concern and care for me. He explained everything thoroughly and took the time to answer any and every question. He's a fantastic heart surgeon and a wonderful person.

Dr. Kwan did a quadruple bypass on my husband and he was wonderful. Dr. Kwan wasted no time in the pre-op appt, prepared us for what to expect from the surgery, and there were no complications from the surgery. That is the mark of an excellent Surgeon, no infections and a smooth recovery! Two Weeks After the post op check my husband had a question about a pain that developed from his tube incision scare, which was caused from a pulled muscle, he called the hospital at 6:00 am and Dr. Kwan returned his call in less than one minute after being notified. He ask questions and diagnoised immediately what was wrong and what to do to solve it. We are so grateful for Dr. Stephen Kwan and would recommend him to anyone having cardio problems!

This man is just a wonderful person and a fantastic doctor!! he saved my father's life!! My father died on the operating table as he went int for open heart surgery and a lesser doctor knowing my father's poor health history, failed kidneys and severely damaged heart might have just said: "time of death....." However Dr. Kwan is not only a GREAT surgeon but he is a true pure hearted man. He did the quadruple bypass on my father and brought him back. He not only saved my father's life but he goes above and beyond the call of duty in many other ways, his kindness and his council.

Dr. Kwan and his quick thinking and knowledge saved my dad's life. After a massive heart attack, and a trip to the ER, we quickly learned dad was dying and Dr. Kwan did open heart surgery and saved his life. We will be forever grateful to Dr. Kwan and highly recommend him to everyone!

Dr. Kwan is the best,most professional doctor I have ever seen. I am a registered nurse who has had the privilege of caring for his patients. Dr. Kwan is very demanding of all hospital personnel( wouldn't you want him to be!).He is demanding of his staff,his patients, but especially of himself. He saved my mother's life - she was practically on her last breath. No one else could help her and we were told she would die. Dr. Kwan said he believed he could help her and after a long and complicated surgery, my mother is still living today approx. 4 years later. He is my hero. I have NEVER known him to be anything other than professional. I respect and admire him more than anyone I know. If you choose him to be your doctor. You have chosen the very best.

A complicated heart surgery was successful because of the exceptional skill of this doctor and the team. Very dedicated, compassionate and caring. We are lucky to have this guy in Alabama.
