Dr. Stephen Leonard Tocci

I'm writing this to encourage anyone considering surgery with Dr. Tocci to strongly consider getting a second opinion, as my experience felt more like a sales pitch than a thorough clinical evaluation. During my initial visit, the Physician Assistant indicated that my symptoms were very likely hamstring-related and that the likelihood of a meniscal cause was very unlikely. However, during the follow-up, the surgeon focused entirely on a horizontal meniscal tear identified on MRI--a usually degenerative type of finding and usually incidental/asymptomatic in nature. (Notably, my meniscal tests during the physical exam were negative.) What concerned me most was not just the emphasis on surgery, but that other relevant MRI findings were not discussed with me during the consultation. After requesting a copy of my MRI report myself, I learned there was also a semimembranosus tendon (hamstring tendon) tear--an issue that is not treated surgically and that aligned with the PA's initial… clinical assessment. This lack of discussion around alternative explanations left me feeling that the focus was more on scheduling a procedure than on fully exploring the correct diagnosis. I would strongly encourage others to ask detailed questions, review their imaging reports personally, and consider obtaining a second opinion before proceeding with surgery.

I saw Dr. Tocci for a bunions and hammer toes. I had some apprehension about surgery as I heard friends who had surgery else where with poor results. Dr. Tocci's great bedside manner put my mind at ease. I found out that my pain was also from some bone spurs that he shaved down during surgery. It's been 2 months post surgery. The recovery was much easier than I expected. My foot looks "beautiful", straight toes! I plan on doing my other foot as well with Dr. Tocci.

My son and I have been seeing Dr Tocci on and off for various ankle, wrist, shin, and hand injuries for the past ten years and we wouldn’t go to anyone else! He has repeatedly helped us and healed us. One injury I had five years before seeking help and he helped me with that too. He’s the best doctor and if I trusted him with my 8 yo for all the years thru 18 as well as myself (and my career was in healthcare), you can trust him too! Any office of administrative issues with billing may be dealt with in that department. We haven’t had any. Just know when it comes to healthcare, Dr Tocci keeps the ‘care’ in healthcare! Very experienced and knowledgeable.

I've been seen by a few of the physicians in the group and have been given incorrect diagnosis which led to wrong treatment. Questionable billing practices, i.e. double billing and billing for non performed procedures.

Dr. Stephen Tocci made recurrent diagnostic and clinical errors of my knee condition which required me to have two additional surgeries. I would not recommend him.

Dr. Tocci fitted me with ankle braces, but I refused to accept them because they were painful to wear. He filed claims with Medicare and was paid by Medicare even though I did not take the braces. Now Medicare will not cover the cost of better braces that I wish to get from a different provider. I do not recommend using this doctor for braces.

I was fitted with ankle braces that caused me a great deal of pain. They were supposedly adjusted, but they still hurt me so I returned them. Dr. Tocci billed Medicare anyway. Now I have no braces and no coverage from Medicare if I try to get better braces elsewhere.

Knowledgeable, very patient. Doesn't push the patient to do surgery.

Dr Tocci is exceptional. I was impressed by his knowledge, and he made me feel very confortable. Unlike a podiatrist, he went to medical school and specialized in foot and ankle surgery after his orthopedic residency. He explains things really well and I trust him.
