I have had three babies with Dr. Southern and received excellent care. His staff is warm and inviting too.

I switched to Dr. Southern after being treated badly...medically and personally...by another doctor in Charleston. Dr. Southern's care for my problems actually preserved my fertility, which I could have lost if I had continued at the previous place I was going. He took great care of me during my pregnancy and always answered all of my questions thoroughly. He is up to date and follows all currently accepted medical protocols. Dr. Southern really knows what he is doing and you will be in great hands under his care. His office staff and nurses are top notch. Really a wonderful experience!

I have been seeing Dr. Southern since I found out I was pregnant at 6 weeks, I am now 23 weeks and I don't look forward to seeing him at the appointments. The nurses are great and very friendly, same with the ultrasound tech. Dr. Southern tries to make you feel stupid if you ask questions or have concerns. He always seems to be in a hurry like hes rushing you out of the office. If I get pregnant again in the future I will use a different doctor.

This doctor missed important diagnosis with my pregnancy. I was extremely ill & so was my daughter at birth because of this. He dismissed my claims that something was wrong for weeks before her birth. He's rude. He upset me to the verge of tears several times.

After years of struggles, inconsiderate and lazy doctors, I FIRED them all and started over. For nearly 20 years I was slowly dying because my doctors would not listen nor provide the correct tests - in desperation and disgust I fired everyone and took great pains to investigate new doctors. I work in healthcare, I can honestly say most doctors don't care about anything but the paycheck. I took my information and met with Dr. Southern, he performed specific tests, reviewed my history and determined that I did have a serious, long-term chronic problem. I lived for years with a 5-6 hemoglobin; heavy blood loss every other week, fatigue, unbearable pain, anemia, nausea, physical issues that prevented daily enjoyment of life. Dr. Southern walked thru all tests with me personally, spent a great deal of time discussing and planning. Many doctors believe they do not have to provide info to the patients nor discuss various choices and issues with patients but not Dr. Southern. THIS MAN… IS A REAL DOCTOR with a REAL person attitude; he doesn't display a superiority attitude as many do, HE ACTUALLY CARES!! I was not forced to wait hours for an APPOINTMENT TIME - when an apt is set for 1pm then you are taken within a 30-40 minute window unless an emergency arises - in that case the staff will inform you allowing for a reschedule. I never waited more than 15 minutes to be seen. When he tells you he will see you at 0600 he will see you at 0600. Dr. Southern is one of 2 doctors at the time using the robotic surgery device at CAMC for womens health care. I was lucky enough to have a minor surgery that in traditional form would have been a major surgery. I had what is called a robohist - a hysterectomy by robotic surgery. Instead of 6-10 weeks post surgery recovery, severe pain and cutting as done with a traditional hysterectomy; I was given the opportunity to have two very tiny incisions in my abdomen the width of a pinky fingernail; surgery was on a Thursday and I was enjoying family activities on Sat. I came out of recovery at 5pm and was eating and walking by 7pm. The robotics surgery also allows the doctor to perform a less aggressive surgery that removes only what is necessary unlike the doctors who perform traditional hysterectomy's where the attitude is to just remove everything they can reach which results in hormone issues, weight gain, physical damage, etc. I was lucky enough to only require the removal of my uterus. I know that a traditional surgery with another doctor would have resulted in a radical surgery and major removal including my ovaries. DON'T LET ONE DOCTOR "TELL" YOU WHAT TO DO; GET THE INFORMATION AND RESEARCH OTHER ALTERNATIVES. Dr. Southern saved my life, my health and my body. I have lost over 30 pounds, have all of my hemoglobin and I no longer have daily fatigue. I have skydived, traveled by plane, ziplines and rafted - things I was limited for years due to health issues - correctable health issues. Just because there is an MD or DO after their name doesn't mean they know or care about what they are doing or about you. YOUR HEALTHCARE IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY - THAT DOCTOR WORKS FOR YOU NOT THE OTHER WAY.

I recently learnt I was Pregnant , and booked a appointment with Dr.Steven Southern as he was recommended by some of my husbands co-workers. I have been for 2 appointments so far and it was just amazing. There was no wait time, the nurses did a gr8t job in taking a detailed history on my first appointment, you don't have to fill up the history form, they fill it up. The Doctor spent a lot of time with me making me comfortable & explaining how everything works. Also on the first day of my appointment , I had a U/S which did not show up anything in my uterus. But the doctor was so kind enough to get my blood results on the same day and explain that I was a little early to expect anything to be seen in the U/S. Actually I was ready to wait a day for my results,but he was so kind enough to understand my fears and made sure I knew my results the same day & put me at ease. And the following week , he again did a U/S and we saw a Gestational Sac. Also the clinic does the blood work and the… Ultra sounds(U/S), so there is no different places to visit. I feel really very comfortable with the Doctor and the clinic, & would recommend them to anyone looking for a good OB/GYN.

This alleged doctor was cross-covering for my regular OB/GYN when I was pregnant with my first child. I was in incredible pain, and when I spoke with him, he had the nerve to ask why I was calling and bothering him. He told me to take a stool softener and rest. As it turns out, I had HELLP syndrome and severe pre-eclampsia and had to have an emergency C-section days after speaking with him, resulting in my son being born 10 weeks early. I was literally dying and this man did not care. If you value your unborn baby, do not consult with this man. He would sooner leave you to die than deal with you.

He really cares about his patients and the nurses are great as well. That's really all I can say, he is a great doctor and I would advise any woman looking for a OBGYN to make an appointment.
