Dr. Stewart Reddin Carter, MD

My teenage daughter required emergent surgery for a perforated appendix on Aug 23, 2021. As a critical care nurse for 28 years, I've seen my share of bad outcomes, and I was so afraid to have this experience as a "mom". Dr. Carter took the time to reassure and inform me from the ER all the way through discharge from the hospital. He provide excellent care to my daughter in every way. His single incision technique is something I had never seen, and I am so happy this was possible for a teenage girl especially. I am so thankful for his skill and care.

My son needed emergency surgery for a perforated appendix. Dr. Carter did an excellent job and was able to remove a lot of the infection reducing the recovery time. Dr. Carter was very caring and took time to really explain what happened and what we could expect. Thank you for helping our son.

My son has been at Children's for awhile with stomach issues. We were not excited about seeing surgery at all and he completely listened to our concerns and respected them. When our problem continued to grow through the week, I knew we were back to that point if talking to surgery. When he came and spoke to me, he was understanding and even knelt next to me and showed me a video of the results of my son's CT scan so I would feel confident in the decision. That has never happened to me in all of my years of dealing with surgeons. He was professional and caring and efficient. And when I called out in surgery holding, "Bring my baby back in one piece"....he smiled and waved amd promised he would. I do not normally leave reviews for doctors. First time actually. But he instilled faith me and never dismissed my thought or concerns. And when he came back after surgery with a big smile, I know I had placed my faith in good hands. Yes, he has an attending, but it was Dr. carter that… brought me comfort.

Unfortunately I am at Children’s hospital with my daughter for an extended stay. I have had the great misfortune of having to see Stewart Carter for two minutes every morning during his rounds. He has used those two minutes each day to completely dismiss my concerns and questions with nothing but condescension. He comes in each morning and cancels extra testing ordered by his partner who is actually monitoring and interacting with my child. This morning he refused a simple strep test even though my child was up all night with severe throat pain and fever. He spoke so crudely to me for asking and looked at me like he wanted to slap my face. I have refused any further contact with Stewart Carter as he is not in control of his attitude towards parents but also not up to date on his research of infectious diseases. Never coming near my child again.
