Dr. Stuart L Silverman has the following 2 specialties
A neurologist is a physician who diagnoses and treats disorders of the nervous system which is comprised of the brain, spinal cord and nerves. These doctors do not perform surgery, but refer patients to neurological surgeons when they determine that surgical intervention is necessary.
Some of the conditions that neurologists diagnose and treat are epilepsy, aneurysms, hydrocephalus, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke, spinal disc herniation, and spinal disease.
In addition to using diagnostic tests like MRI, CT scans, EEG and EMG, neurologists also employ neurological testing to gauge muscle strength and movement, balance, reflexes, sensation, memory, speech, and other cognitive abilities.
A psychiatrist is a doctor with specific training in the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness.
He or she can not only provide the counseling necessary to both diagnose and treat a patient, but can also prescribe medication when needed. In some cases, a psychiatrist will only provide the medication and the counseling will be provided by another healthcare specialist, like a certified counselor or psychologist.
Like other doctors, psychiatrists employ diagnostic tools like CT scans and MRI in order to observe the structure and function of a patient's brain.
Once a diagnosis is made, these specialists may use behavior or cognitive therapy in order to address the patient's condition, or a multitude of other types of therapy, in conjunction with or in place of medication.

Took two months to get an appointment. Then after him seeing him he sent me for an MRI it took two weeks to get the results and I had to call to try to get them and when I finally was given the results I was told to go to a surgeon because I need brain surgery. This is not something I feel I should have been told by a secretary over the phone :(
I was referred to Stuart Silverman by another incompetent stumblebum (Dr. Brian Negrini UPMC) in an attempt treat a head / neck injury. After waiting for 2 hours, I was finally called in to the examination room where I met Dr. Stuart. I then briefly summarized my medical complaint. I was given no physical exam whatsoever. At no point was any type of reflex test or neurological evaluation administered. He didn't even make a token attempt to take vitals. Nothing. Literally all I was asked to do was walk a few steps toward the wall, after which he replied ' I don't see anything wrong.' The entire encounter lasted about 4 minutes. I was told I would require an MRI but had to wait until it was cleared by my auto insurance. So I left the office thinking I would return when my insurance contacted me and approved the imaging procedure. I think I was justifiably shocked when I received a bill for hundreds of dollars the following week for services rendered by Dr. Stuart. Essentially I was charged, and begrudgingly paid, nearly $300 to sit down and shake this fat idiot's hand. Did I go to see a Dr. or Bruce Springsteen? I understand that there is a staff on payroll, and overhead, and overhead on the overhead and the Dr.'s time is worth money. But $100 per minute seems excessive given that I was summarily blown off and not examined at all. And also I guess my time is worthless and the 2 hours I wasted in the waiting room watching Judge Judy is going to be refunded too.
