Dr. Stuart Charles Sweet, MD

We traveled from Oklahoma to St Louis to see someone from the Pulmonary team. We couldn’t have been happier with our visit with Dr. Sweet. He listened to the questions we had about our babies condition. He answered each of them and took the extra time to explain his reasoning. There are some very experienced Doctors who still aren’t informed on Child Lung Disease, DR Sweet is not one of them. Our daughters condition is a little depressing, but it was good to meet someone who could be honest about her prognosis and still restore some hope. Even beyond our appt. our hospital experience was 1st rate. Parking was good, information desk was friendly, radiology was friendly and timely, pulmonology staff were professional. If St Louis isn’t already the model for Children’s hospitals,I bet it will be soon enough.

Dr Sweet not only is working as a researcher for Wash U he is also affiliated with St. Louis children’s and Barnes Jewish.... is he representing your best interest?.Before you do any transplant read ACOT independent advocate ACOT HHS.gov and make your own decision.

Dr. Stuart Sweet has been involved in care of my daughter since 1997 , the time of her lung transplant. He became her primary pulmonologist in 2000-2001. He is just excellent in his care. He is insightful and a always step ahead in the planning management of whatever issues arise ( and there have been several over these 16 years). What I like best is that Dr. Sweet steps in and actively addresses any issues immediately. He does not take a "let's wait and see what happens" approach which would be detrimental to any transplant patient. These patients cannot wait to see what develops. Post-transplant care is complex and the myriad of causes for any particular symptoms are vast and the treatment needs to be tailored to the specific cause. Definitive answers by whatever means are necessary so appropriate treatment can be instituted quickly. Obviously he always begins with the least invasive and informative first, then moves forward as indicated until the best solution is clarified. He… keeps his patients and their families well informed, if not by him personally then by his terrific staff that surrounds him. He is reachable at any time. Dr. Sweet is a serious, cerebral doctor in manner, I like this. He is dealing with serious life threatening diseases either before or after transplant. My daughter would not be alive today and have the quality of lfe she has, except for the care that Dr. Sweet and other doctors and nurses and other healthcare staff at St.Louis Children's Hospital have rendered to her. We travel 1000 miles 2 or more times /year for the care delivered specifically by Dr. Sweet and SLCH. I dread the day we have to leave Dr. Sweet's care because my daughter will age out of pediatrics soon. We trust him implicitly with my daughter's life. That is testimony enough as to the physician and professional that he is!
