Dr. Sudy Elizabeth Jahangiri, MD

I rarely write reviews but decided to write this because I do not want anyone to have the terrible experience I had at Grand Valley Oncology. My experience was stressful and upsetting. I found my care to be far below what I have experienced with my previous oncologist who was nothing but caring, attentive and compassionate. Grand Valley’s mission statement says “they are committed to provide the highest quality health care possible in a safe and comfortable environment.” They did not come close to meeting their mission statement. I am a stage 3 colon cancer survivor with new health insurance following retirement. I went to Grand Valley for my 6 month follow up CT. I chose Grand Valley based on recommendations and was assigned Dr. Sudy Jahangiri. The appointment was short and pleasant. I scheduled my CT scan a week later at Community Hospital not realizing that all of the MDs at Grand Valley are affiliated with Community Hospital. The problem with my care was trying to get the… results of my scans and how I was treated when requesting the results. FIVE days after my scan, I called GV for my CT results. I was told they were “very busy” and someone would call me back. I waited, no one returned my call. I called again two days later and left another message for someone to please call me before the end of the day. Finally, at the 6:00 pm Dr Jahangiri’s nurse, Ricky called and told me again that they were “very busy” and the MD had not read the results yet and someone would call me on Monday. I waited (AGAIN), no one called. Over the course of the next week I called a few more times with no results but always with the explanation that they were “very busy” and that they had a new computer system. Finally over 2 weeks after my scans, Ricky, Dr Jahangiri’s nurse told me my scan was “okay”, she said, “It’s the same as your last scan.” She was flippant and clearly annoyed by me because I expressed my concerns that the results took so long and that the MD never took the time to call me. There was no apology or any further discussion about my scan results such as, “do you have any questions?” Only question she asked was “do you want me to mail you the results?” When I voiced my frustration and disappointment with the service, I was treated with complete disrespect, as though I was being unreasonable for their total lack of compassion, efficiency and timeliness. The entire experience was so stressful that I made a formal complaint to the Medical Director. When the the Director finally called me said explained that the delay was due to waiting for my out of state records. My question is why didn’t anyone just tell me that in the first place? Obviously, there is a lack of communication and coordination between staff since no one really knew what was causing the delay. The Director apologized for the nurse and other staff’s rudeness which was nice of her but it certainly does not change my opinion of Grand Valley. I will not return there not would I recommend it to anyone. In addition to the above, I later discovered that I was sent to the most expensive hospital in the Valley to receive my scans. I am new to the community so I was unfamiliar with the various medical options in the Valley. Due to my preexisting condition of cancer, I had to self pay out of pocket. I paid $4700.00 for a CT scan at Community Hospital (that was a 40% discount)! Afterwards, I discovered St. Mary’s scans are $420.00, Fruita Hospital $2100 and other area imaging services are thousands of dollars less then Community Hospital. Grand Valley knew I was self pay but had no regard about the exorbitant cost of a simple CT scan. I hope this review is helpful when choosing your cancer care. The last thing you need is to encounter a treatment center that is too busy or disorganized to follow up on your care.

Dr. Sudy takes time to listen to her patients and cares about their best option for their specific case. She is always willing to answer the multitude of questions and makes sure you understand what is being said and happening.
