Dr. Sundar Jagannath, MD

Perhaps the most important rating for a doctor is their competence. Do they “know their stuff”? I’d rather have a competent doctor than one with great bedside matter when it comes to a serious disease like Multiple Myeloma. Dr. Jagganath knows his stuff. I believe he is brilliant in his field. But what I ultimately realized is that he is more about the illness than the patient. He wants to cure this horrible disease and I greatly respect him for that. When he meets with you he speaks into a microphone to detail the data from the statistics. He does not seem to read any individual charts before entering a room with a patient. Everything seems pretty much data driven. The downside of this is that it feels fairly impersonal. He has given devastating news on the spot as he discovers it in a blood test. He has even admitted to a crucial error in treatment while reviewing my husbands chart. It basically slipped out.. “oh, looks like we missed that”, during his recording. It was not his… fault, but was due to an error by one of his staff. His team is inconsistent, and you see different people each time you go there. You cannot reach anyone directly, you need to go through the general phone number and leave a message. He did give us his direct cell phone number, which is highly admirable, but we never wanted to bother him with questions unless they were vitally important. We finally decided to switch doctors, and hospitals, when we were told that as a current patient my husband would need to wait 2 months for an appointment, however I was able to verify that as a new patient we would have been able to get an appointment in a few days. Additionally, we generally had 1.5-2 hours of wait time. There is something very wrong with this model, and I am hopeful that someone in a position of power at Mt. Sinai will read this and make a change. My husband and I appreciate Dr. Jagganath’s brilliance and his passion for combatting this disease, but we ultimately could not continue with the “business” model of this Hospital.

Dr. Jagannath is the expert in Multiple Myeloma! He is calm and knows how to treat this dreadful cancer. He brought my wife into remission. In case of a emergency he gives you his phone number and he always gets back to you within minutes. If one treatment dosen't work he gets another treatment that dose. Yes you might wait a while to see him, however it is well worth the wait.

Open to patient and physician outlook in care.

Iam a three time multiple myeloma survivor, and if I didn't switch oncologist I wouldn't be here today, I give him and his staff 10 stars!!

Dr. J. is one of the "greats" in treating Multiple Myeloma. He is up to date with all the new developments and is in charge of many new drug trials so even those who have failed with the "approved" traetments have a chance to get into a new trial and hope it works. His bedside manner is absolutely outstanding. He gives you all the time you need, even if it takes him past the end of your scheduled appointment time - the downside of this is that he sometimes runs late in taking patients in at their scheduled start time. But it's a trade-off that is well worth making so you don't have to get pushed out the door so he can be on time for his next appointment.

Did not fully explain the risks involved with continuing chemo while in hospital such as infection risks. Just yelled at family members asking questions. No calm sit down discussion with all family members to lay out thorough risk benefit analysis.

Although Dr. Jagannath is not warm, he is caring. He will answer all your questions with courtesy. He is expert at choosing and combining the right chemo meds to treat a patient while also determing what a patient can tolerate. His concern for the patient extends beyond his immediate specialty of multiple myeloma; he considers the overall health of the patient. His consideration for his patients extends to his making arrangements for local treatment so that the patient needn't travel a long distance. Good guy to have in your corner. As a footnote, I am amazed at the knowledge and competence of his nurses and nurse practitioners.

Dr. Jagannath is a wonderful doctor and an even greater human being. He really cares for his patients. He helps them, explain everything, meanwhile he is couteous and professional. He is only physician who gives his cell number to his patients, if they are serious. He has come to rescue at really off hours when I was in the hospital late in the evening. He is a world renowned myeloma physician and is simply GREAT !.

No bad side manners. Gave me no hope just bunch of statistics on the mortality.

He maybe a good doctor but terrible bed side manner. He gave me no hope at my first visit. I found a much better specialist who actually is concern about his patience. I am not just a number and statistics.
