Dr. Susan Lynne Kinnison, MD

Dr. Kinnison did a colonoscopy on me in Salem, VA. It was 10 years ago. She never came in to see me to tell me how it went. Nurse finally said she'd call me at home and she never did. I finally called the office for a week and the nurse finally told me that everything MUST have been OK if she hasn't called. Now after another colonoscopy I had to tell them there was nothing to compare it too unless they can find her. I have issues now.

I was referred to this surgeon for breast cancer follow up/treatment. My first visit was fine, but after biopsies I was diagnosed with DCIS. Prior to surgery, I was repeatedly told that my cancer was the "good kind of cancer". Prior to my lumpectomy, I saw her again and, by then, I had questions to ask regarding my diagnosis, treatment, etc. I inquired about the BRCA genetic test, given my family history, and she was dismissive. In fact, it appeared that she hadn't even reviewed my chart, which had all of the information needed to determine the need for the test. She basically made me feel that my questions were a nuisance. I did not care for her bedside manner, but decided to proceed with her as my surgeon so as not to have a delay in care. When my surgery was completed and my pathology report came back, I was told that my cancer was invasive. Unfortunately, since Dr. Kinnison was so sure that my cancer was DCIS, she did not do a sentinel node biopsy, which, I have since been advised,… is the standard of care. Needless to say, I lost confidence in her treatment and switched doctors. I have been very satisfied with my follow up care since then. I have to say that I found her "bedside manner" lacking and it made an already difficult time worse.
