Dr. Syed Hashmath Anwar, MD

Dr Anwar knew exactly what was wrong with me the minute he looked in my eyes.I was hallucinating and with my first time visit he gave me medicine that snapped me back in reality. He also changes my dosage's when ever he feels it's better for me.He saved my life and I will never forget him.

Dr. Anwar saved my life. He is a compassionate, and extremely gifted Psychiatrist. I had seen plenty of psychiatrists in my youth, and they all just gave me medicine that made me feel worse. Dr. Anwar is the reason I am accepting my mental illness. He will work with you for any reason, whether you have school or legal troubles, Dr. Anwar goes out of his way to tend to the needs of his patients. He is one of the main reasons I am now studying as an undergraduate medical student of psychiatry. In 2006, I had such a horrible depressive episode, I actually voluntarily committed myself, and Dr. Anwar had the cure. To this day, I cannot thank him enough!

Don't let his calm demeanor fool you. Dr. Anwar is incredibly arrogant and will resort to threats if you do not like his plans for treatment. If you find yourself under his care and have a pre-existing condition, don't be surprised if he tries to re-diagnose you with something completely different and recommend you keep taking improper medication for his mis-diagnosis despite the issues that would come up if you are taking medication for a disease you don't have. I have had to deal with Dr. Anwar a few times during periods I did not have access to appropriate medication or healthcare because of lapses in insurance coverage all leading to psychological crises. Last time I was under his care in an inpatient facility, given my history with him at that point, I refused to take any medication he prescribed...because he was still trying to prescribe me things that literally do the opposite of any medication that has helped me over the years. When I was discharged from his "care" the… last time, he made a point to speak with me on my way out. He said "I don't care what you say or think, the next time you're here, you will take what I give you even if it means 'the shot' (meaning a mix of Haldol and Ativan forcefully given to patients in these types of facilities)." I responded with "Sounds good" smiled in his stupid face, left and found licensed professionals that actually helped me get appropriate treatment for the actual disorder I have.

Dr Anwar saved my life. I have anxiety and depression and at the point I was refer to him, I was suicidal. With a combination of the right medicine I am able to live a normal life. I had seen other doctors in his field and had not gotten the same results.

Dr. Anwar is alright. He doesn't really care, but at least he can diagnose and treat your illness. The desk staff, however, is incredibly rude and unwilling to help. Nothing like having suicidal ideations and having a woman tell you you can't see your doctor.

He is old and out dated. He gave me all the wrong meds for my diagnosis, because of that I put on 50 pounds. Went to another doctor and she could not believe what he put me on! He didn't give me the time of day, and I really don't think he heard a word of my situation.

He is one of the most caring doctors that I know. Too bad there are not more like him. He takes the time to listen, not just hand out prescriptions and does not leave his patients to hang in the wind until their next appointment if they have problems with anything., (side effects)

I met Dr. Anwar in an inpatient setting first and he was very nice and caring. He took me on as a full time out-patient and has been very caring and takes the time to listen answer all my questions. I would highly recommend him.

He saved my life. I dont know what I would have done if he was not my doctor.

I live approximately 60 minutes south of Dr. Anwar's office and while there are Psychiatrists closer to where I live, none of them ever were able to give me the care that Dr. Anwar does. I have been with him for over 5 years and look forward to each visit I have with him. He is willing to listen to suggestions on treatment as well as what is going on in life that either makes the condition better or worse. He offers great suggestions for coping and communicating.
