Dr. Tarin Ilyse Gitlin, MD

We chose Dr Gitlin because of her focus on healthy living and reluctance to overuse medications. Our experience is that she is very defensive when parents present questions. She often answers questions with statements like "I can do (blank) if you really want, but it won't help". When my Son failed a school hearing test, Dr Gitlin continuously dismissed both the school (state) hearing test results and my requests to see a specialist because he had passed a previous in-office hearing test. She resisted when I requested to have his hearing retested in the office and made me feel like an over-reactive parent. After accusing my Son of lying when he failed several follow-up in-office hearing tests, she miss-diagnosed his rare ear disease as common persistent fluid. We changed Pediatricians, were immediately referred to an ENT, and got a proper diagnosis. The delay in diagnosis caused 100% hearing loss in my Sons ear. Hearing loss would have been much less had the proper diagnosis been… made when he failed the first hearing test. I don't expect any Doctor to be all knowing, especially when it comes to a rare medical issue, but I do expect a doctor to seek advice and specialized assistance as appropriate. Dr Gitlin not only refused to seek professional assistance, she was dismissive and defensive when I asked questions about her diagnosis. I would not recommend Dr Gitlin to any parent.

I enjoyed Dr. Gitlin's bedside manner. Her strengths is the amount of time she listens well and how nice and respectful she is to children.My dislike would be that although she's a very new dr. she will sound as though she knows more than she possibly can. I had to point out a couple side effects to medications she was unaware of. They can't possibly know it all but please please please don't tell us you do that's dangerous in medicine. There's nothing wrong with saying let me check on that.I would recommend her to parents with some knowledge of medicine. I would not recommend her to a brand new naive mom.
