Dr. Thomas John Howard, MD

I have Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome. He had to cut me open from bellybutton to sternum to remove the kiwi-sized tumor out my duodenum along with other ill-looking lymph nodes. I was up and walking the next day (albeit, slowly). The incision was perfectly straight, and 7 days after surgery, I was feeling 100%. He is professional, smart, and a God-send. Our appointments were great, and he really took the time to explain things...made me feel good during this stressful time in my life. Highly recommend!!

Very unprofessional and rude. Performed a. Gallstones surgery and now my daughter can't walk and has no feeling in lower left leg. Dr. Howard has no compassion or clue as to what has happened.

Extremely rude and unprofessional

In 1996 I suffered from a Bile Duct Injury where the surgeon cut my CBD while doing a laproscopic Gall Bladder surgery. After 10 days of having my original surgery in Evansville, IN. it was discovered and I was rushed to IU where Dr. Howard saved my life by doing a Roux-en-y. I was just hours from dying and I owe my life to first God but then to Dr. Howard. I have had a long relationship with him and will be forever grateful to him. I would recommend him to anyone.

Can never thank him enough for all he has done. So far, post whipple, my husband (10 months out of surgery) is moving forward in his recovery from prancreatic cancer. It has been a long road to where we are but thanks to him we are still on that road. With his resignation, i can say IU is losing an incredible Dr. Best wishes to him and all of his current and former patients.

Dr. Howard did an open distal pancreatectomy and spleenectomy last spring on me due to a large pancreatic cyst. I did have some post-op complications, but he was always compassionate and willing to take time to listen to concerns and answer questions. I've never felt rushed when I've had a consult time with him. He does difficult surgeries, but remains optimistic and passes that optimism on to his patients. With surgical removal of what turned out to be pancreatic cancer, I owe much to Dr. Howard.

Dr. Howard was a very thorough Doctor. I had been sick for 2 years and nobody could figure out what was wrong. Dr. John Dewitt, and Dr. Lee McHenry were the doctors who finally found out I was born with only 1 duct in my pancreas,and it was blocked. After a stent failed, they sent me to Dr. Howard. He surgically went in and stitched my duct open so it wouldn't plug up anymore. It has been 1 1/2 years and I feel great. I can not speak highly enough of Dr. Howard and his staff. I honestly believe that I would not be here today if it wasn't for Dr. Howard and the doctors at IUMC>

Seriously ill with pancreatitis I entered IU Med Center on Saturday afternoon and on Sunday Dr Thomas J. Howard performed a 6 hr surgery, saving my life. I would recommend him as a top surgeon who cares about his patient's well being. Should I ever need surgery again I hope he will be available.

I feel Dr Howard helped to save my life. I came to him after 3 months of being at another hospital and they did not know what to do with me. My stomach was wide open & my insides were a mess. He managed to put me back together, and I have not had any problems! I will be forever grateful to Dr Howard
