Dr. Thomas Otto Mayer, MD

His mood was frustrated. His tone of voice & questions asked were perceived as if he did not believe I was truthful. My tolerance of rude behavior is almost non-existent. For awhile I tolerated his mood. Finally I asked politely if we need to reschedule. He asked, 'why? ' I replied that his tone was one of frustration with my answers to his questions as if I were not being truthful. His reply was that he was frustrated as he had no way to verify my answers to his questions because the Veterans Affairs (VA) computer records were not displaying as they were supposed to, he was unable to gain access but only to very recent records. I almost left anyway. However I was anxious to measure the progress if any of my Diagnosed Dementia by another Veterans Affairs neurologist. I just wanted to leave. My Mother was a RN Director of Nurses and had a Discipline that she expected from her Nursing Staff. It was… You will have Sympathy, Empathy, Care & Concern for every one of your Patients at every… encounter/visit or you will not remain employed. Dr. Mayer met none of those qualifications in any way form or fashion. I was disappointed with Dr. Mayer. The other VA neurologist displayed Sympathy, Empathy, Care & Concern.

I found Dr. Mayer's knowledge of his field to be excellent. He reviewed the MRI that was done on me thoroughly with me. He gave me a good examination and listened to my concerns and addressed them. I left feeling like I had received care that was above my expectations.

Not prepared when seeing him and he was still reading your records while your waiting. His word was the only that matters. Do not waist your time and money. Has no patient what so ever....especially when driving long distance to see him. VA expertise is what he is use too.

Completely unsatisfied with effort to take care of me.

I love Dr. Mayer. He is a friend to you when you are there. I personally drive for six hours once a year to see him. I have seen five other neurologists and he is the best one I have met.

Dr. Mayer is the worst neurologist I've been to. He can't get past his ego to treat his patients properly. He has horrible bedside manner, and is a bad doctor on top of that. I know several people the he has misdiagnosed or treated improperly. I would recommend steering clear of this guy.
