- Cardiovascular Disease
Cardiologists are doctors who specialize in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of conditions related to the heart and blood vessels.
A patient may be referred to a cardiologist if he experiences symptoms like chest pains, shortness of breath, dizziness, or high blood pressure. The physician will then evaluate your symptoms, take your health and family history and your weight. The cardiologist may order additional diagnostic tests, such as an echocardiogram, X-ray or blood tests. If necessary, the cardiologist may also call for a cardiac catheterization - a procedure in which a small tube is inserted into or near the heart that can take pictures of the heart's activity, or relieve blockage.
Once determining whether there is a heart condition, a cardiologist will treat a patient through cholesterol management, cardiac rehabilitation, and fitness. If surgical intervention is required, like open-heart surgery, a cardiologist will make that determination, but a cardiothoracic surgeon will perform the procedure.

I had Congestive Heart Failure. I met Dr. Byrne at Banner University Hospital. A lot of people volunteered their good opinions of Mr. Byrne. Never heard a bad word. Plus, myself, i had some kind of discernment regarding this wonderful doctor with a very good sense of humor. My heart was too weak for open heart surgery, which was the opinion of at least a couple of cardiologists. But Dr. Byrne thought i might be a candidate for a Mitro-Clip procedure to try to stop a badly leaking heart valve. So a panel of doctors studied my tests and all my information and came to the conclusion that i would be what they calls A difficult case. Meaning that they were not very sure of the outcome providing i had the Mitro procedure done. Then, it was up to Mr. Byrne if he felt confident to do procedure. I never doubted that he would. He did. I went in with a very badly leaking heart valve and now they can detect no leaking. It took three mitro clips and a few difficult hours, but the procedure couldnt have better results. I am so grateful. I have another chance at life. Dr. Byrne also works with other great doctors like Christina, a very knowledgeable doctor. Well, i thank God for putting people such as Dr. Byne and others in my path. I feel much better. My heart is stronger, and my heart felt better even by the next day.
My husband was diagnosed with inoperable liver cancer at the same time he was found to need a tavr. He was walking with a walker due to compression fractures in his back. In rushing testing, but not inpatient, he ended up going into vfib and defibrillator going off 9 times before er stabilizatoon. 6 days later transferred for preop. Next day tavr. Bedridden since and now slowly dying of liver cancer. I don't feel he was a person, he was a procedure to mark in the success column. Now I'm going broke paying for caregivers, my husband is suffering slowly, and I'm sure Dr. Byrne is doing quite well.
I waited over an hour just to see Dr Byrne and then waited an hour while he kept taking phone calls and forgetting that I was there. A consultationappointment took 3 hours of my morning. Also I would never recommend this doctor, unless you want a doctor who pays absolutely no attention to you. My best guess is this doctor has a very high malpractice rate. I am waiting over a week and still no information about a test being scheduled
Have had several tests performed only past year. It took many calls and over 3 weeks to get the results. That's terrible for heart patients who are anxious anyway.
