- Pulmonary Disease
A pulmonologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions related to the lungs and respiratory tract.
These specialists are similar to critical care specialists in that their patients often require mechanical ventilation to assist their breathing.
Pulmonologists diagnose and treat patients with conditions such as asthma, cystic fibrosis, asbestosis, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer, COPD, and emphysema. Exposure and inhalation of certain toxic substances may also warrant the services of a pulmonologist.
Some of the tools and tests pulmonologists use to diagnose a patient are a stethoscope in order to listen for abnormal breathing sounds, chest X-rays, CT scans, blood tests, bronchoscopy, and polysomnography.
- Internal Medicine
An internist is a physician who focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions that affect the adult population—both acute and chronic.
These doctors are often who adults see as their primary physicians because they treat a broad range of illnesses that do not require surgical or specialist interventions. They also work to help a patient maintain optimal health in order to prevent the onset of disease.
In addition to treating the common cold and flu, internists also treat chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease.

Dr. Locher and his team are very responsive to my needs as a patient. I would not go anywhere else for my asthma/allergy care. Dr. Locher is very professional and polite. He listens to my concerns and provided a detailed exam and tests. I've never had an issue with medication refills, getting an appointment nor having medications adjusted either. I have even had a tech check my CPAP machine there and conduct a breathing test on the spot at 4:45 in the afternoon! Very efficient office. Their office just moved (Catalina Chest) to a bigger, newer place and it's spotless and the staff are respectful and truly helpful.
He didn't know what he was doing. His office staff was rude and kept forcing the breathing test until she got a reading that she liked (took 6 tries!!). He started the conversation with "there were some concerns about your test results." Then he said "well wait. Let me go look at the results and I'll be right back." WHAT?? You drop a bomb that you're concerned, but haven't looked at the results and didn't even have them in front of you before you started talking?? Dr. Locher was no help at all! I don't recommend him!!
