Dr. Tran Phung attended college at Brown University and graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She completed her medical school, residency and fellowship at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. Dr. Phung is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. Dr. Phung was the recipient of the Tampa General Foundation Scholars Award in 2005. Her research includes an HIV/STD/TB Prevention Summer Research Program at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). She also spent time as a research associate at the Retrovirology Research Lab at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu, and later conducted HIV training workshops in Hanoi and the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. She has extensive volunteer experience in rural and migrant health clinics, and has participated in health screenings, back to school physicals, and medical mission trips. Dr. Phung has given many lectures, most recently presenting abstracts at annual meetings of Infectious Diseases Society of America and the American College of Physicians. Dr. Phung is a member of several professional organizations including: the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association and Infectious Diseases Society of America. She holds an academic appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of South Florida College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine. Her special interests include travel medicine, tropical diseases and HIV patient care. She joined Infectious Disease Associates of Tampa Bay in 2010.
