Dr. Umair Syed Ahmed, MD

Umair Syed Ahmed, MD, FASN, is a Nephrologist, a physician specializing in diseases and conditions of the kidneys. He provides expert care to patients with kidney disease and has a special interest in the management of hypertension. Dr. Ahmed is a Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology and is a Certified Hypertension Specialist (CHS) through the American Hypertension Specialist certification program. Dr. Ahmed sees patients at our North Campus Specialty Care/Hollis Cancer Center location. Describe your clinical specialties I enjoy providing care for all aspects related to the field of nephrology, including but not limited to hypertension, acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, glomerular disorders, kidney stones, cystic kidney diseases, electrolyte abnormalities, end-stage-renal disease including managing both hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis and management of kidney transplant patients. I do have a special interest in the management of hypertension, and I am a …Certified Hypertension Specialist (CHS). What is your patient care philosophy? My practice is patient focused. I know this statement is very clichéd, but I feel this describes my style of practice very well. I believe very strongly that each patient has unique needs and goals and it is important for me, as their physician, to recognize this and provide this care to the best of my ability. My practice philosophy focuses a lot on patient education. I am a firm believer that the field of medicine needs to be “demystified,” and providing my patients with the tools to understand their medical condition and to be involved in their healthcare can result in significantly better patient outcomes. My aim has been, and will be, to do the best I can all the time, so help me God. What are some interesting facts about you? I am a sports fanatic. I am addicted to weight training, which is one of the ways I unwind. I live and breathe soccer and am a diehard Manchester United fan. Would you like to share about your family? I am very happily married to my best friend who is a Lakeland Regional Health pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine physician. We have two adorable sons who are the joy of our lives. My oldest son loves to watch soccer with me and his favorite team is also Manchester United (yes, I have taught him well!).
