Dr. Vanessa Yohana Cavero Chavez, MD

This “doctor” was absolutely terrible. We visited the office today for my child who has severe allergies and eczema. The first 15 minutes was me telling her my child’s history when my child has been a patient there for over a year and all information is in her medical chart. She constantly talked over me, raised her voice at me, reminded me that “she is the professional and has been for 7 years and I came here to talk to a professional”, accused me of “malnourishing my child” by limiting foods in which she is having allergic reactions to (my child is healthy, in the 80th percentile for her age and is a great eater). This doctor multiple times laughed in sarcasm when I was addressing my concerns. I informed her multiple times she was being rude. She was being so unprofessional and rude she made my 7 year old daughter cry from how she was talking to me. I had to ask to speak to another doctor who ended up being amazing. Unfortunately due to Dr. Cavero Chavez’s unprofessionalism we were… there until 6pm after all nurses had left and we weren’t able to get my child’s blood work done. I now have to drive an hour around trip to come back to the office on another day for a blood draw. Shands should not allow this doctor to practice under their name as it is tainting their reputation. If I hadn’t met the other amazing doctors within the practice I would never come back to UF Shands pediatric allergists

Dr. Cavero is perhaps the absolute worst medical provider I have ever seen. She interrupted me constantly, she did not listen to what I was saying, and asked me questions that I had already provided her answers for. She refused to order allergy tests that I was requesting--tests that previous providers had found valid and ordered for me in years past--and told me I needed to see a pulmonologist first so she could "be sure" I had asthma. She told me I didn't have allergies because I wasn't breaking out in hives and wasn't having an anaphylactic response. She asked if I had medication allergies and I told her yes, penicillin, and yet because I couldn't report to her exactly what happened when I took penicillin (because the allergy was discovered as an infant and I was told by every medical provider in my history to always report it as an allergy), she insisted that I needed to be tested for it ASAP. As someone who has lived several decades with severe asthma and has been treated and… tested by other physicians for allergies and asthma, I cannot imagine her being more invalidating and disrespectful of a patient she just met. I complained to the office and they were completely unresponsive.
