Dr. Vanja V Cuk, MD

My first few visits were not what I hoped for and hesitant if I would stay with this office. The staff was not professional, I saw the partner in the office yell at patients on two different occasions but I was assured Dr.Cuk was nice and didn’t do this. He also doesn’t close the exam door and the assistants just walk in if they need him without knocking on all my visits. My last & final visit was so unprofessional. He started me on a new med prior to that visit then went on vacation. After 3 days I had severe swelling in my extremities & face. I called into the office and he was gone. I went to Urgent Care for help who told me what to do then saw Dr.Cuk when he got back. I began explaining what had happened including the fact I stopped taking the medication that caused my swelling and I knew my Thyroid level was probably off again. He raised his voice very loudly & told me I had no right to stop the medication. That it would not cause the swelling and laughed at me mentioning my… thyroid needed checked. He told me we are a team, I do not stop meds without him saying so, I know nothing, I am not the doctor. I tried to explain more and show old medical records showing my medication reaction but he quickly slid across the room on his tool and got right in front of my knees while I sat in a chair against the wall. He began screaming at me repeating how he felt that I had made decisions without him etc and completely ignoring the fact I had advice from an Urgent Care doctor. I asked him 3 times to stop yelling and offered to leave the office if he was that upset but he kept yelling. He asked me why I was crying and I told him he was disrespecting me by yelling and making fun of me. When he finally decided to go back to the counter area & his computer he stood up. He put his hand over his mouth and danced in a circle like an Indian patting his mouth laughing saying I bet you believe they can really make it rain also. He was making fun of me because of me saying the medication caused swelling and I needed my thyroid checked. I bruised his ego by dare saying I knew something and did it without his permission. I’m a full time caretaker for my Mom who has Alzheimer's and he knows this. I live with daily verbal & emotional abuse and sure didn’t expect it from my doctors office. Stay away from this place.

I have been seeing Dr. Cuk for many years. One of the best things about Dr. Cuk is that he listens. His manner is professional but he makes you feel comfortable. He is not judgmental and gives you guidance and choices with his recommendations. This last visit was the longest I have ever had to wait. Normally no more than 15 to 20 minutes. But I know the wait is because he is caring and thorough. And I would not want to be rushed so I try to understand that aspect when it happens. He cares about his patients and his memory about your history makes it feel personal even though he has obvious access to your records.

Best doctor in Illinois. Caring, compassionate and takes his time to help you.

I would and have reccommended Dr. Cuk to family and friends. He is thorough, and a true patient advocate. I only wish he was associated with CDH as I am not a fan of Alexian Brothers Medical Center.
